I know I still have a long way to go as far as the learning curve is considered on the ctx but I have a problem that maybe some of you can help me address. Instead of beaches (which I have been mainly hunting) I have been hitting the parks lately. I noticed one thing which is completely different from beach hunting is the stability or chatter that the ctx produces, the target ID #'s are all over the place. I try a few of the stock programs, from "coins" to "high trash", all with the same results, lot's of chatter. This is why I mainly hunt beaches because at the beach I at least know what I'm digging.

I also noticed that the chatter will continue throughout the park as I am swinging, I just know there can't be that much metal underground or maybe I'm wrong. I leave the sensitivity on auto but maybe I'm missing something here. Please help me with your suggestions, advice, videos, etc. my good fellow detectorists :)

thanks again ya'll.

First question I would ask are you performing the noise cancel prior to detecting or during your hunt. I have never hunted a beach but in my imagination there wouldn't be as many electric wires, phone cables or other things that would cause EMI that you would probably encounter at a park.

Secondly if you are running in auto sensitivity at what level. Some places I hunt I can run in auto +3, but the majority I drop back to auto +2. Some are so iron infested I have played with auto and negative sensitivity.

You may be doing all of the above if so you might wan to check your connections
Hope this helps and you figure it out.

Thank you for your reply :) I did not perform the noise cancel and will remember that next time. As far as the sensitivity goes I left all sensitivity settings to auto, I will consider bumping the auto to +2 or +3. I went to that park with the wife and kid and it left me very little time to "toy" with the settings. I can't wait to go back and apply the recommnded settings you have suggested....thanks again !!!

Do yourself a great favor and 'read' the hundreds of posting on here regarding 'chatter', 'noise cancelling', 'emf', 'Ground Balancing', 'sensitivity levels, auto and manual', and then hook up your CTX to the PC and set up three or four 'programs' with different parameters, 'Fast' either on or off, 'Deep' either on or off, etc., and learn what the machine is saying. Especially read the threads regarding 'tones', combined and 50. There are hundreds of fellows here that have gone through exactly the same things you are experienceing and they have posted what they 'discovered' about the machine here.
