Hello everyone,I,m Davey from Newcastle , England, stumbled across this forum a few days ago and improved all my techniques already, gonna practice coin extraction with a screwdriver tomorrow. Best coin so far is a George 111 halfpenny 1806 but aim to better that in the very near future, be in touch soon.

Welcome davey. lots of good people here and loads of info, tips, etc. Best of luck!

Nice coin Davey, here is a picture of a George 111 Halfpenny dated 1806.

dug a few George 111 Pennys but all very worn, but what the heck most had

been in the ground for over two hundred years.

Good Luck and H H

Les.

Hi Leslie, that coin of yours is in a different class to mine, after cleaning it I can only just read the date and thats with a magnifyer. This weekend I was out twice, once was hunting modern coins practicing techniques(19 coins 6 of which were pound coins) and a trip to a stubble field where I found 2 victorian halfpennies and a vic penny, I also got a nice lead seal which are quite common around here but this one has nice clear detail. One of my hunts was on new years day and my first dig turned up a silver coin, only a modern 20 pp but thats my first silver coin since I started detecting in October 2011, here,s hoping its a good omen.

Sounds like your hooked on this great hobby Davey, which model detector are you using?

Like rick in mi said, plenty of help on this Forum, any questions just fire away and the great

people on here will be sure to help you out. Look foreward to your further posts.

Thanks for the chat Leslie and a big thanks to everyone else for the great welcome I,ve recieved. I am using an F5 which I,m really pleased with, learning new stuff every time I use it. I use a hunting knife for hunts on grass and a screwdriver for the easier targets. When I started a few months ago I went mad trying to get a Lesche digger but gave up because it costs far too much with shipping etc. Cant remember the exact figures but it was something like 18$ for the tool and 45$ for the shipping , cant understand why a UK dealer has,nt jumped in here because all the people I know in detecting circles would love to own one, but since using my knife for a while I,m quite happy to stick with it. Got two stubble fields arranged for the weekend, cant wait, update soon.

If you P M me your name and address Davey I will forward you my Fiskers knife

I have never used it, and you are most welcome to it.

The other day I mentioned that I had two stubble fields to do, well me and my mate went today and could,nt get out of the first one, loads of good signals and afirst for me.... a cartwheel penny. That was top of my wish list, now it has to be a hammered coin, dream on eh? Anyway today I also got 5 musket balls, 1 vic penny, 1 vic halfpenny both in pretty poor condition several buttons and loads of lead which I dont mind digging because it gives a good signal. No artifacts today but great fun. Got to find out what happens when you let the batteries run down too low which is handy to know. Might try an hour in the park tomorrow.

Keep pounding them fields Davey,if you are finding musket balls then the Hammered coins are not

far away, take your time and you will get your rewards, thumbs up on the Cartwheel Penny I bet the

date on it is 1797.

H H and Good Luck

Les
