I took your advice for the last two days and dug screw caps. Yesterday I found a screw caps and then stouck my pinpointer in the hole - there about two inches into a side wall was a clad dime. No big deal, right? Today I located two different screw caps and in one hole was an old memorial cent under the screw cap by an pinch or two. The secomnd crazy find was a nickle on the side wall after I recovered the screw cap.
Now these are normal clad coins but hey - you were right about what is hidding under or near the trash.
