Charging port on the 800

GroundScanner

Hi guys, I received my 800 new and I was wondering on the charging port why Minelab would not put a cover over it. Or am I missing the cover on mine ? Or did they not have a cover at all ? Thanks, GS

There has been lots of discussion/concerns about the charging spot. Its really not a port per se just a flat surface as you will see and we haven't seen any problem, just enjoy your new machine.

However....Clive brought up a good point check um because being magnets they can collect black sand keeping them from making a good connection.

Something for BOTH gold hunters AND water hunters to think about!

Should not be a problem. Most of the magnetic action in on the cord's terminal, and while the charging port on the detector is slightly magnetic, it is located at a long distance from any sources of black sand when you place the detector on the ground.

Now, it would be nice for Minelab to design charging cables that are more flexible or pliable like the ones produced by Apple for the iPhone and computers. The Minelab cables are quite stiff in cool to cold environments, so one has to bend them "here and there" to straighten the corners before charging the 600/800 detectors.
