Charging Excaliber battery

I hit the beach yesterday and took both the Explorer and Excaliber. I first finished off the Explorer battery life and then put it to charge in Truck with 12V charger in cig. lighter. Then thinking I had enough charge in Excaliber to finish off the day, but nope it died within 1/2 hour. Now here I am a dig-en up targets galore and Now I have two dead detectors. My Excaliber didn't come with a 12V charger. Can I use the car charger 12V that came with My Explorer on the Excaliber? If so I will bring the adapter with me next time.

You need higher than 12 volts to charge a battery, something like 15volts should force juice back into the batteries. I think the detector is a 12 volt battery so trying to charge with 12 volts wont work. I don't know if the car adapter you where using had a transformer in it to up the voltage.

The Explorer charger is only made to charge the battery for the Explorer which is 9.6 volts even though some earlier ones the decal says 12 volts. The Sovereign and Excallibur uses a 12 volt battery so the 9.6 charger will not work for the Excallibur. This is why it also has a differnt plug on the charger and battery so they will not fit and also why it will charge a 9,6 volt pack as the supply voltage from the lighter socket is 12 volts, if not the pickup would have to be runnig to charge a 12 volt battery pack as it will need 13.7 volts for the battery to charge. The best way is to make sure you carry the car charger with you or extra battery for the Explorer, or make sure the Excallibur or Explorer batterys are charged before you leave home.

Don't know about the Excaliber but the GT Sov works great with the regular battery pack other then the chargeable one. I have it to install when my charged one quits. My charged one charges with the cigarette charger I have for my Advantage and works when the engine is running.
