Charge time for Minelab Excalibur batteries

I have had a Minelab Excalibur for many years, but the other day a friend of mine told me that I may be over charging the Re chargeable batteries. What do most of you do when Re Charging the Re chargeable batteries ? Do you plug them in and leave them overnight ?
