The weather was not the best as we hunted the high country. We spent some good times talking in the truck. I think that was more fun than hunting. When the rain would stop it was out and at it.
Elson was checking out this cabin. It was a three story fixer-upper that had a little potential, if you had a bulldozer.

We found this old foundation and hunted for a while. The finds were few. I believe this place had seen a lot of detectors. There were a bunch of unfilled holes with junk by them. We did manage to find some old cartriges, even a 1870's type of rimfire, and a lead soldier that had been missed by other hunters, along with some other interesting stuff. Here is another action shot of Elson.

Elson crossed the road and went down into the Grimes creek valley to check out an old rusted out car. He found something interesting in the old 36 Ford that I have never seen posted here before.

The geocache had a log book and a tweety bird doll in it. We read the book and put it all back. That is the first one of those that a Cajun with a Garretts has ever found in Idaho, I am pretty sure about that! He remarked that it was fun going down hill, but he didn't think about having to climb back up. He was panting a little as he scrambled up the muddy hill.
The rains kept coming so Elson wanted to go somewhere drier and where he could find some coins. I took him to an old park with a swimming area down river where I water hunt, and the coins are plenty. When we arrived, I was overjoyed to find that the water had been lowered and the swimming area and docks were out of the water. Elson started out in the grass, but soon he was down in the lakebed looking for goodies in the muck. There were a few crawfish in the moss, but he resisted the urge to eat tail and suck head.

We did o.k. here too. Our finds included lots of coins, a watch still running, a couple silver rings, a pocket knife, a nintendo game (Now that is another first for me), a toy boat, golf balls, and even a bikini top. I held up the bikini to show Elson. He gave me this funny look and said, "Ruh Ro". I think that is "Uh Oh" in Elson.
Some birds swam by as we hunted. I said they were swans, Elson thought they were jambalaya.

The cold and wet was getting kind of old so Elson wanted to head back to my house. I called Nancy on the cell and told her we were inbound. When we got home she had a fried chicken dinner waiting for. We talked and laughed some more. I showed him my old 1960's detectors and exlplained the use and adjustments of the old Whites. We have it a lot better now folks.
I tried to talk him into staying another day so we could hunt some more, but he wanted to head to Lost Wages Nevada. Nancy took a photo of the two of us, and he headed out into the Idaho night.

It was a very short time to be with this fellow. I wish we could have enjoyed him longer. I have not posted any of our finds because the real finds in this hunt were the fun and friendship we shared. I would rather find 1 pulltab and a crusty zinc with a good friend than a whole poke full of gold, alone.
I hope you enjoyed the story. I wish I had time to write more about this fun chapter in my life. He told me lots of stories and taught me some Cajun history and lingo. I even know where the "Headlock" thing came from now, but he will have to share that story with you in person. You wouldn't want to miss out on the visual effects.
