Changing the threshold tone

gear box

New member
Can the threshold tone be changed? Mine has a low gravelly tone to it, it also has the Dixie mod's done to it. I don't know if a Gt without the mod's would sound any different as this is the only GT I've ever seen. I like the way mine sound's when the threshhold comes back after notching out a tab. I think it would be easier to pick out the deeper targets when there is only a threshold change. It would be much more pleasing to listen to also.
Thank's Gary

Gary, the threshold on the Sov's and the Excals will change whenever the coil passes over a target. The tone of the threshold will match that of the target so the low growl threshold means that the last thing the coil passed over was some iron that probably nulled out. The different threshold sounds are what help you in identifying targets, especially if you don't use a meter. Those pull tab and nickel sounds are nice to hear, especially on the beach as most gold will have tones in that range, but if every target gave the same sound you may as well hunt in all-metal and dig everything (if not using a meter and those of us who hunt saltwater beaches generally don't). I heard or read (probably on here) about somebody taping a nickel to his shoe to pass the coil over. I know lots of the guys on the beach will pass their coils by their scoops to change the threshold sound. You might try doing something like that but I don't know if the unit can be changed to give only one threshold tone for all targets other than hunting in all-metal and then shifting to disc to check the target. Good luck. Jerry

If you are in all metal mode and and have past over metal it be a deep signal and stay that way untill you pass over a good target again. What you can do,as I d,o is to flick over the switch from all metal to disc and back. This will return the threshold ton back to normal.

Hope that helps

???? I think you'll find its the other way round, the tone/pitch doesn't hold in all metal, but it does in Disc mode. If you move off the target in all metal the tone reverts to normal, otherwise how could you use it for pinpointing

Stand corrected. I will put down to not enough tonic in the gin.
