Good evening everyone, managed to get out to my favorite park / ball field down the road from my house. But first, on my drive to the park, I reflected about how I haven't found any more gold since my 2nd hunt with the ATP. I also asked the big guy upstairs to give me a sign that a procedure I need to have done tomorrow goes smoothly and pretty much asked for a sign while hunting tonight. I said a gold ring would more than work for me! Anyways I geared up and decided to try hunting a little different tonight.
I decided to still stick with the Pro-Zero mode, but to keep the ground balance at 90 which is typical in my area. I decided to grid the field. Now mind you, I have gridded this field in some sections before with my old Whites XLT, but decided to really slow down tonight, overlap the swings by a lot and just make 2 passes. First coin dug was the lawnmowered wheatie. Unfortunately the date was removed professionally Good sign that more goodies would come and I was happy to pull any kind of wheat from this pounded field, especially for my first coin in the pouch!
Slowly I moved, now when I say slow, I mean slow. The manual suggests 3 ft every second... I was swinging 1 ft every second. Tons of nulling and iron everywhere, wadded up foil, can slaw and the usual junk. I then came across a rather large can slaw signal. It registered around 45 vdi and was relatively shallow and it sure was a big signal. I probed the ground first with the pro pointer and couldn't locate it. Started cutting into the ground and felt the crunch with my blade. I figured I just hit the edge of the slaw. I flipped the plug and saw the chain. My first reaction was nice, someone dropped the chain to their ceiling fan! I pulled the chain out slowly which was actually attached in the plug and noticed a clasp. No way, checked it out and it says 925 italy. Sweet! I then remembered cutting into it with my blade and immediately searched for the broken piece. Found it in the wall of the hole with the pro-pointer, damn that pro-pointer is sweet to have. I was able to put the chain back together. Awesome, my first silver necklace with the ATP and it sure is beafy!
I said to myself this gridding and slowing down really is paying off. Next decent signal bounced from 39 - 42 - 45 - 37 - 35 etc etc... I figured may as well try for a tiny gold ring. Ended up pulling up the magnet. As soon as I saw it I thought "how ironic" will make a fine addition when I sort out the iron from the brass/copper/aluminum. I also had visions of Looney Toons cartoons with the big acme magnets. It is stamped "England" on one side. Continued on my path and heard that sweet high tone. It was bouncing from 84 down to the mid 70's and it was the nicest faintest signal I heard all night. Depth suggested 8" and that was with the coil on the ground in pinpoint mode. Dug a huge plug and stuck the pro pointer in and heard a faint chirp in the side of the hole. Dug a big chunk of dirt out and sifted it with the pro-pointer and she screamed. Saw the silver disc and was very happy to see 47 Roosie staring at me. This is the 11th Roosie I dug out of this field with the ATP since I got it. Where's the Merc's???? I dug them many times in the past with my old Whites XLT shallower than I was pulling Roosies now with the ATP. I just dont get it! I then got to the end of my first pass and decided to step over 3 ft and work another path back towards my car.
Slim pickings on the 2nd pass. Dug a lot of can slaw, was able to nab a 57D wheatie and then it happened. Heard that unmistakeable soft silver tone. There was a iron grunt at the end of the swing that had my suspicions that it could've been a rusty bottle cap, but that soft silver tone sounded great at all angles. Depth was 6". Cut a plug and stuck the pro pointer in and it was in the side of the hole. I carefully scrapped away the dirt with my index finger and found a silver edge. At first I thought it was a ring but when I pulled it out I said "its another silver dime! Holy #%@! another one!" Now its nearly dark out, I'm already on my knees holding this silver covered with dirt and I said to the big guy upstairs, please let it be a merc. I wiped off the dirt and saw that sweet lady liberty. 43 Merc! I decided that it was definitely time to go now because I didn't wanna push my luck. I also must say that although I didn't find any gold, I did get the sign from the big guy I was looking for!
