Went out for a early morning dig and dug a bunch of clad. I landed this nice cross that might be gold. Then a south african coin and a dollar coin. I cant believe i found this African coin in northern indiana

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and that cross.

That S.A. penny is in sweet shape too. The ship on the reverse is "The Drommedaris". Here's a little history behind it.

On 24 December 1651 Jan van Riebeeck set off, accompanied by his wife and son, from Texel in the Netherlands for the Cape of Good Hope having been appointed on a five-year contract as an employee of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). His task was to set up a refreshment station which could be used by VOC ships on their way to the spice-rich Far East.

His ship, the Drommedaris, sailed with two other ships, Reijger and De Goede Hoop, and Table Mountain was sighted on the 5th of April 1652. Within a week of his landing on 6 April, Van Riebeeck had begun work on the Fort of Good Hope.

Thanks man. just so you guys know I have this thing with cleaning my non key date coins with Bar Keepers friend.. I have piles of clean Wheaties lol

Bar Keeper's Friend or not, the overall condition of it is excellent. I compared it to others that I found find pics of, and the detail in yours is better than most.
That ground is really kind to coins.
