To anyone interested,I purchased a Bounty Hunter probe for $45.00,Does not perform well.Went online to Harbor Freight tools ordered thier probe for $16.95 It out performs the more costly one.It is much louder and also detects at a greater distaince, also has a light for night hunting.Just go online to Harbor freighttools.com and put insearch metal detecting probe. You have to order online as none of the stores have them.It is an excellent probe. Wayne

Hey Dabbie1, I tried to find this probe you were telling us about and I have not had any luck. I called harbor freight and they did not have anything like that. Do you have anymore information you can share

Thanks a million.

HF has had this pointer available for years. It's often available at the stores. Ain't much of a pointer but will do in a pinch. You might ask HF for a stud finder instead of a pinpointer as that may be the way it is listed. Most of the employees don't have the remotest clue what a pinpointer is.

Yes I got two of these pointers,so i could have one in the car and one in the van, that way i have one any time i need it. They do work very well, just as good as a $100.00 one, and better than some $100.00 ones.If you like the big names go for them, but if you just want a pointer that dose a good job get a $16.95 one. Good Luck

Just type in your search,Harbor freight tools, when it comes up with their search type in metal detecting probe. You have to order them from online as most of their stores donot carry them.and most of their employees no little.Wayne

One of the common problems with these pinpointers is that they wear out real fast. The tuning knobs don't handle the turn on and tune features over many repetitions. They need constant retuning as the batteries wear out and sometimes fail completely in cols weather. I have tried many different types and brands. They work well for a limited time, then start breaking down. If you rarely go out and detect, and only in decent weather, they would probably be OK.

I ordered one of these probes last friday,am still waiting for it. What I didn't care for was the shiping cost 8.99. I am going to get a garrett pro off of ebay tonight. when it gets in I'll use harbor frieghts as a back up.

hello all,
this is a great idea, i have one stud detector sitting in the shed for more than 10 years, i will manage to
find a use for it after i fix it a little for pinpoint, after i have read a lot here, many off you have some great
explanation and experience, after a newbie like me have read all the post it is like getting out there and having a lot and a lot of knowledge in mind, saving time and frustration, im using a ace 250, was looking to get a pinpoint tool,
got to this post, and i was going to get a stud detector, and manage to change the use gave me and idea
that i will share with you, since a stud detector is very cheap, like many for $10.00, and i think that $150.00 is a lot of
money for a toy that worth $10.00 its only the desing that is different, the use is the same, take few punch some holes in it or add whatever you want, be sure not to damage the electronic circuit, and thats it, so i am sharing this
go to global sources, type in stud detector and find as about a few dozens of supplier for the thing, many many of them as a request a sample fonction, as i did for 4 of them, some ask you to pay for shipping + taxe, depends on
what you type in to register, even if you dont have a company name, make one, there is no scam here or fraud,
even if you have to pay for the shipping, it's still cheap, where do you think plastic items or case are made, over there
there is no law for polluting the planet, china, thailland, korea, hong kong, etc. pls find out where all your toys are made
plastic case or electronic plate, then all of us will learn where to buy, usa or canada still north america, wait in 2060
there will be some plastic detector loll, and we will be all dead, the picture of what i have ask for samples
again i am trying to make less mistake in english, but still,
thanks to all of you for the very fine post and help,

frenchy
