Cell Phones/Towers and the ctx

unearth

Member
If I remember correctly, didn't the e-trac experience some problems with interference from cell phones or was it cell phone towers? If either one is correct, has anybody noticed any interference from their cell phone/cell phone tower while hunting with the ctx?

I keep my cell phone in my right hand pocket just inches from the unit and I haven't had any problems........... that I know of anyway.

I did have interference tonight.. couldnt figure out why. I noise cancelled several times lowered my sensitivity to 11 before the chatter stopped.. The landowner said her internet, phone, and cable line ran underground right were I was at... I never had an issue with my E-Trac in the at spot.. Not sure why that affected my CTX??

Could be the ctx is just more sensitive.

I had a similar issue yesterday my ctx 3030 went crazy i got a target and put the detector down to dig and it slowly start sounding off getting faster and faster "chatery" for no reason i got up and walked about 20 feet still did it the only way to shut it up was to hit noise cancel and i went back to the spot after the noise cancel and it worked fine, Iv'e been over this spot allot with other detectors with no problem; EMI i guess and just a tip electric dog fences will cause a detector to act like this and go crazy

They only thing I noticed was the wireless unit picks up the cell phone tones. No big, just shut it off when hunting. Dont like getting calls anyway when I am searching for treasure. I did have it pretty close to the wireless unit. Just using the CTX I have not noticed any problems. If you think the signals are from a dog fence, and you happen to have an small portable radio, tune to am 60 or 600 and you will hear the pulsing of the dog fence.

Like Larry (IL), I carry my cell phone in my right front pants pocket. I have also, taken pictures of my finds along with taking notes, in the cell phone. I have not experienced any problems/interference between the CTX and the phone by doing this........HH

I will have to change the channel. On some hunts it was no problem close. On the last one it made a little noise, but did not affect the TID that I am aware of.
