ce 250 Hipmount

I converted the Yellow Fellow into a hipmount. It makes it easier for scanning under porches of old houses etc. A lot of things went through the cracks of old wood porches. Used the factory screws so it can easily be put back to stock condition. Also put rubber bumper around the coils to protect them when you're around stone foundations and walks. The bumper don't seem to hurt the sensitivity any. Just an idea that works for me. I have the Ace and all three coils now. Maybe I'll be able to find that gold ring now. Wishful thinking, but I always go detecting with a positive attitude.

I like it!! I might try that with my straight shaft my huntin' buddy built for me. Where'd you get the clip?? Is that weather stripping for the rubber bumper??

I hope the guys at Garrett see this  What a simple yet effective way to hip mount that Yellerfeller! Great idea on the short handle and bumpers too. :)

The clip came from Lowes, Its a Swanson Speed Clip. You can find it in the tool dept. Its made to hang things on your belt. I had to heat it with a hot air gun to strighten it a little.I drilled the holes to match the Ace plastic mounts. Hope the pics show how it was done. The bumper is marine and auto weatherseal I got at the local hardware. Its a cheap and simple way to make the Ace a hipmount. The coil cables could stand to be a little longer when your standing up but I use a short swing anyway. I'm looking for an extention cable for it. If anyone knows where I can find one let me know. Just thought I'd share the idea with all you other Md ers.

I'll hit the Lowe's over the weekend!!! Thanx again for the post, great mod. As for a coil cable extension, you can call or e-mail Garrett and they will send you connectors and coil cable and you can make your own. They sent me 10' of cable and 4 connectors for free along with the wiring instructions. The cable is actually just 5 strand coax and what they sent me threw me at first as there wasn't 5 individual wires in there. They explained you have to unwrap the wiring to get at the other to shield wires. It all worked out just fine. They will probably make an extension up for you, but seems it was kinda pricey, if I remember right. I went the splice route as I needed it to be watertight for my OtterAce 150.

Very nice! I agree with John, you should cut a deal with Garrett.

I'm not sure what garrett charges for the connectors, but if there to expensive you can use CB radio mike male/female connector the ones on a cobra 148 there 5 pin same exact connector they may be cheaper than garrett. just a thought

Thanks bigcatdaddy, Didn't know the mike connectors were the same. I think I'll try the mike connectors and see if I can make my own extention.
