I came across a small town city square that had been hunted before............ how could I tell? This is just 4 of well over a dozen plugs that some detectorist made and we wonder why public property is becoming off limits to detecting....

Several things are wrong here.

We should not be digging on high profile grass like peoples yards, parks and public squares when we are in a drought because the plugs die and look like hell and city officials throw a fit and start making new ordinances like no metal detecting allowed.

My coil is 11 inches around, why in the heck does anyone need to dig a 11 inch plug to retrieve a one inch coin? A 3 or 4 inch, three sided hinged plug will get the same coin out of the ground and you will not sever all of the roots by going 360 degrees. Also dig straight down and preserve as many grass roots as possible. It looks like someone cut inward from the side making a huge shallow plug and severing all of the roots.

Modern detectors will pinpoint within an inch of where the target is so a 4 inch plug will still give plenty of room to recover it and do very little damage to the grass.

I would hate to think one of our club members did this and this was a wake up call for more specialty training at the meetings. Think how your actions affects all detectorists.

Man this makes me sick. This person has NO understanding of the hobby. It's probably One of those fools we see walking around with one of those huge shovels. That plug is so huge. Oh I bet your harbor freight beeper just went nut's when you found that miller light can you @#@#&*^%ing %^^^$##(*(*^&%$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets all just sit at that park untill they comeback. ...........then drag them to a meeting so they know their stuff.

oh lets look at what this @$%#^#^hole found:pulltab::pulltab::pulltab::pulltab::pulltab::pulltab::pulltab::pulltab::pulltab::pulltab:

When Larry showed these to me on his camera, I was in shock! I could not believe how huge those plugs were and then with ALL the grass dead. How devastating. Can you imagine what the groundskeeper is thinking? This could cause many parks to be closed as a prime example of why NOT to allow metal detecting. Sad, so very sad! :sadwalk:

Thanks Larry for posting these photos. Everyone needs to know this is going on behind our backs

HH, and be considerate!

Nancy

You have got to be kidding me. That is so wrong. A hole that big they must have been watching that show on tv. :ranting:

There appears to be a shortage of common sense!

I wouldn't even want to detect in that area. Some poor fella
could get the blame for someone elses stupidity!

New or old members need reminders and the club meetings are for education purposes also. If the dirt is dry, stay off the grass. Go woods hunting or make sure it will rain within one day. We do not want ANOTHER city/town/village off limits to our fun time. Cut straight down, not at an angle. Take your time pinpointing from at least two directions. Ask a club officer to demonstrate at a hunt the best recovery methods. LEARN or our detectors will be permanently in the closet. :goodnight:

Larry's very last words were very important!

Think how your actions affects all detectorists.

Hi Harold, It's good to see you on here! Welcome to the forum. Long time no see! HH, Nancy
