Catskill Mountains Relic Hunt....:twodetecting:

Went out metal detecting with some friends to look for some old cellar holes that we found on a map in the shawangunk mountains.

Came upon this old wagon road and decided to follow it into the woods. Heres my friend Rich 4 wheeling on the old road.

After about 1/2 mile in we came upon the first cellar hole.

Not much was found at this cellar hole but some old iron relics and old shotgun casings. We spent an hour and a half at this site and then decided to explore further down the road.

After a half hour of 4 wheeling down the road we came upon old ruins of a 17th century dutch home.

Here's my friends left to right John, who is known as cellarholerat on this forum, Dale, and John's brother Nick. They are standing next to a huge tree in the back yard of the old ruins.

Looks like a really interesting and old area to hunt. Very nice pictures, great old house ruins. Did you find anything at the ruins? I wish we had areas like that to hunt. My area has only been settled since the late 1880's.

Jim, due to picture limitations of the forum look at part 2 of the story which has finds from the cellar holes.
