Cast your vote....best state for metal detecting??

It's real easy to envy those who live in Virginia for it's Civil war battlefields, or Massachusetts with it' 16th century homes, or how about the treasure coast of Florida for it's shipwreck gold! If you could take a treasure hunting trip somewhere, where would YOU go?:usaflag:

That is easy any East Coast old town, or East Coast State...Longer existence and more valuable coins lost. Read the Minelab forums where all those guys hunt ..Wow amazing the finds they make..

Other States as the country moved Westward too........ PA has a lot of history too ............

Great question! I generally tend to agree with Elton BUT..........without complicating the original question....each of us are seeking to detect different kinds of targets and that's perfectly fine.
Some of us are relic hunters, some are coin shooters, some are into meteorite hunting, some are looking and detecting for gold nuggets, some are dreaming of detecting that big gold or silver cache and then some specialise in ghost town hunting and looking for those old mining implements and relics etc;!
Then there are the beach hunters which I particularly love to do. So for me, the California beach's would have to take my vote:thumbup:! Although If I were younger, I wouldn't hesitate to cast 2 votes for diving for shipwreck treasure off the coasts of Florida and the Gulf!:thumbup:

I hear ya there GS. Younger,,,before we got serious with life,... before marriage, kids and responsibilities. Too worn out now. I'd have been all over the country detecting,...but I wouldn't change a thing...go figure.

I would love go to east for older coins but many place might be heavy metal detecting pressure. Private might be best. Chicago might be Clad capital of the world! Coins everywhere!

what your hunting for is most likely dictated by whats available in the area you live. Some have multiple choices but some don't so that sets limits

For me its beach hunting, any place productive:clapping:

New York state, Mostly upstate. Time frame go's back to the Dutch, French & Indian wars, Revolutionary war, C.W. training camps . Lot of old history.:twodetecting:

So far I have been able to detect in five states. For me the one that disappointed was Florida. Spent a week in SW Fla in Jan and hit a bunch of beaches. Found one sterling ring. Found more clad in a city park than I did at the beach. For a vacation I would like to spend a week on one of the Islands in the Caribbean. One that gets a lot of tourists and cruise ships. I had planned on going to Puerto Rico in June but my wife changed her mind.

I am very fortunate to be here in the Hudson Valley..just check my signature to see new good it is

Any place where I have the option of hunting for civil war relics, old coins and beach hunting like North or South Carolina. Plus where the ground does not freeze

California

It would be a cool adventure to try to hunt in all 50 States, as well as a few territories...of course a guy would have to plan this right...have to work the Northern ones in the Summer or Fall sort of follow the seasons and wind up in Key West or Hawaii for the winter!
Mud

I have to agree with Neil as what Neil stated. I pretty happy with what I have where I live in Pa and have been lucky enough to find some neat pieces of history. Metalmedic you did not state what you like to hunt for . Good Luck Ezra

Ezra,

I'm in southwest Florida so I'm pretty much limited to park and beach hunting. For whatever reason I don't care much for beach hunting and most of our parks around here are relatively new. Lately I've been scoping out some older homesites (1920's) in hopes that I can find some coins from that era. I'm an Oklahoma native and used to dig some decent older coins there, even though the history didn't go back very far. I've always tried to make the best of what I have to work with, but that doesn't stop me from envying you guys who live in the northeast or civil war regions. But on second thought....our winters aren't that bad so I should b thankful:thumbup:

Ohio,in Clermont county. It was part of the Virginia military district.

Some townships here were settled in the very early 1800's.
Lots of history and goodies in the ground.

You can't beat new england states for old coins and relics seeing they were the first colonies in this country dating back to 1600's.

Painted some gravel with Gold spray paint, Bought a Silver Dime, Found old Horse shoe yep relic, Found a sunken beer can in the creek Shipwreck. Well this is were it's all at I said to myself--- Ohio.
