Cast (bronze) Indian...Clock holder??

Found this at an old homesite....It was fairly deep under a root. It is cast & likely bronze-very heavy.There are remnants of gilding & the hole has gilding where something went inside. I'm guessing a small clock but the hole itself is not true round. And sadly not a mark/name on it.

Anyone see anything like it before?

Barometer or Thermometer holder? Barometers were in reasonably common use.
