Pick up a replacement NiMh battery on Ebay. They'll last far longer than you'll be able to hunt in a day and you won' t have to worry about drowning or losing your spare.

If you have to carry a spare you could probably rig up a cap to cover and waterproof the terminals (You definitely don't want to carry in in the water by itself). A well placed cork inside of the threaded female end on the stock charger and you could seal off the terminals pretty well.

Put the spare in a zip lock bag, make sure the bag seals, put it in your pocket and have at it.

I went to the NiMH and don't carry a spare on the individual hunt anymore. When I did pack a spare in a pouch, I put a wood block between the plastic mounting ears and held it in place with a rubber-band as insurance against getting wiped out and breaking the mounting ears if I fell on them.

We hip mount our excals
1 nylon belt
2 PVC (i think half in. diamiter
3 stainless steel nut and bolt (length not exactly sure)
4 3/4 in threaded pvc cap
5 2-3 garden hose washers

Take excal off your shaft
Put excal onto pvcpipe and cut it a little loger then the excal tube
Were the holes are for the excal (holes that clipped onto shaft) line them up onto pvc
mark themwithmarker and drill the same size holes that are on excal shaft
now mark the battery pod doing 5the saqme thing
I zipped tied the excal to the nylon belt
And used a 4-5in stainless steel bolt too hold two batteries side by side that also went through the belt(bolt)
If you want me to go into more detail let me know
Or just take the 3/4in cap and put the 2 garden hose washers inside cap and screw cap onto battery that shuld keep terminals dry

You can buy 1" PVC pipe cap at lowes or home depot take an aplie some selicone grease an srcew on end of battier pod makes it completely water tight.
Hope this helps

But, you do have to cover up the terminals or it will short out. Keep it dry and you are fine. No changing batteries under water....:nono:

thank you for all replies.....think i will try the pvc cap trick...that sounds like a simple and cleaver idea.....
