Carrying replacement batteries in the field

Altoid tin would scare me, I plan on making something or repurposing something for this maybe the next finds pouch I make I'll sew a few pouches that fit 9v's on the outside with little flaps that velcro or button closed

You guys must hike for miles and miles to carry all that extra weight.
Charge all My batteries the night before. Fully charged they are all good for over 20 hours of constant use.. My hunts don't last that long... Leave the extras in the car..

Yes, the truck is often miles away. When you have your first battery or charger go bad and find out you don't have fully charged battery's, you will never be without spares.

Batteries in an electrical conducting tin box?
IMO, napkin packing or not, its a discharging accident waiting to happen.

At least the AAs are all aligned in the same polarity direction. That 9 Volt'r is a concern. I would at least put a strip of electrical tape all around those +/- terminals.
If those terminals accidentally short out against the tin box, that 9 Volt battery will get real hot, leaking electrolyte or possibly catching the napkin stuffing on fire. There's also the possibility that battery could explode if shorted out long enough.

Hate to say this, but this is something i personally would never do.

[attachment 317917 DSCF00012.JPG]The tin box fits nicely into the center pocket of your Garrett pouch, very handy and takes almost no space. Check out the padding around the batteries, no way they are coming in contact with the tin box.

I have to agree with ironsight, This an accident looking for an excuse to happen. A metal box filled with tinder is just not wise. A lighter, safer alternative is to place a strip of masking tape across the terminal ends.

I use a plastic cigarette case. A 100's will easily hold 8 AA batteries and I just keep
a fresh 9v in my finds pouch with the plastic protective cover taped to it.

You can buy really nice plastic battery holders on the big auction site. They come just about any way you want two or four 9V, 2,4,6,8, AA's etc. about a buck or less a piece. They come from China in about 5 days. Safe, convenient, inexpensive.

then stick them into a handcuff case on your detecting belt... slide around behind you and you dont even know they are there..

I use these for my AA's. Good and cheap ...

Anybody ever use the portable plastic soap boxes.
Should be cheap and available everywhere.

I carry 4 AA's in my shirt pocket.
