Caring and extra coil and lower rod

I use my ctx on the beach and it’s a decent walk back to the car..
I want to bring two coils with me and have both lower rods attached to them 17-11 coils)
Does anyone have a set up they use in the field to carry the Extra one with them

I’d think if you are even contemplating bringing the 17” you might as well just use it 100% and be sure to wear the harness.
If Minelab designed a new coil for the CTX that found the small stuff and thin chains like the EQ’s I could see bringing two coils on a hunt.

Maybe we need someone to invent the Expando coil - pull it to whatever shape or diameter you want. :)

Protecting the connector from sand and salt may be a concern not worth the risk of carrying the extra coil.
If that's not a problem place it in a pack, rod up, or pass on the rod when carrying the extra coil.

I agree with flysar! Be careful of the connectors. I wouldn't change out the coils on the beach because no matter how careful you are, sand will get in. This could jeopardize the integrity of the connector and let in water.

Here is what I do, I take my 17 inch coil on the machine in one hand, and the other coil in my small back pack, if the rod were attached to it id just let it stick up out of the top between the zipper. My Backpack is not a special metal detector back pack but is a pack designed to strap at the waist AND my chest with super good shoulder pads and waist pads. Im still able to wear my favorite pouch on a seperate belt but have thought about attactching it to the belt on my packpack however I like to set the backpack down in an area that I hunt around a good part of the time. Sometimes I just keep the pack on all day. Im not in the water for it to get wet but i've been rained on a number of times...I dont care as I take rain gear when I do this and keep the coil in a large plastic bag in the pack if its going to rain. . I hunt some out of the way and far from the truck type areas.
I do not recomend this if your in the surf. youd have to keep it on the beach in a place where you place some items or keep it on and not go into deep.

anyway. Im sure you've thought through this and you may come up with a better idea for your use in the surf

good luck,
shov.

“Expando coil”....I was contemplating whether or not it could be done similar to Garret’s imaging coils....3 separate switched coils wound on the same plane,or even just 2...not sure if it could be done. Inner winding switched on would be the smaller coil, larger would be the outer winding and just that one would be on...you obviously don’t get the weight or size advantage of a small coil by doing this but, there could be some use when encountering heavy trash I suppose.
Just chucking stuff around....
