Carbon Fiber Shaft

Anyone have a Carbon Fiber shaft set up on their Excal detector looking to get one about 32" in length for traveling Don from NH

Made 2 from 60 inchs bought from Ultra Carbon Fiber Eagle Mountain, UT 801-471-4150

size .875" od .750" id .062" wall WEIGHT lbs / ft..10
Used a white's tall man lower rod on both, pulled the whites rod ends off, replaced with the excals rod connecter.

total for two complete shafts about 150

I like this stuff, looks like braided steel hose
 
That one is from a CZ20, but you can get them at a bike shop....bar end handles..Got a video on making a shaft for the excalibur coming out in a few weeks...also a video on making your own pel-tor underwater headphones by march 1st..
 
Make sure you get the end bar handle that is two piece so you can heat and twist...all come at a offset angle, you can heat the two piece with a torch and align to be parallel with the shaft.
 
Then the wrap or cover for the fisher is tennis racket wrap. And the others are just slip ons for the Bar end.

Joe that is one sweet setup you have there. those carbon fiber rods can make alot of detectors lighter. Also on the whites rods, I didnt know the minelab isolater would fit up into them, thought it was to big, did you modify it to fit? The whites lower rods are nice and light and strong and you can get the tall man ones fairly cheap.
Im drilling out my larger sov coils a little (10" and up) to accept the same sized bolt that the Explorer/Etrac uses (5/16"). The Sov lower rod isolators have plently of spare plastic to be bored out:thumbup:...........minelab makes all their stuff so beefy and unfortuneatly that means weighty too.
 
OBN gave you some great info. This if more Sovereign related by the information in many ways can be applied to an Excalibur as well...

Here's further info on the Whites Tall Man carbon rod and how I used it in conjuction with a light weight Sovereign GT shaft build. That and running a 3 cell lipo in the alkaline holder dropped me about 1.5 pounds of weight off my GT. Easy mods. Instead of replacing the Whites coil mount I just used four faucet washers from a home improvement store glued as pairs for easy install to span the less wide Whites coil mount to the Minelab coil ears. Worked like a charm. This pictorial video covers that, using a bike end bar for a grip, and several other shaft mods and such...

With the Whites tall man carbon rod being so cheap ($20 these days I think, but I bought it for $10), and also being easily twice as long as the lower stock Minelab shaft, I didn't see a need to use carbon for my upper shaft, since that's only roughly the length of from my elbow to the tip of my finger. I just used a lighter gauge aluminum from the inner extending rod of an Unger window cleaning pole (home improvement stores), which was much lighter than the stock aluminum gauge yet still very sturdy. I figured if I replaced the upper shaft with carbon being that short anyway I wouldn't save myself much weight at all so didn't see the need to.

The video also shows my remote pin point switch setting, mounted inside the bike end bar and hanging down just like the trigger switch on a Whites detector. Love it that way, and mounted my meter on top of the grip too.
