Cap Badge???

I know this will not interest most of you CW folks, but around here our war relics tend to be more 18th century. This peice of pewter was in my scrap pile, but just before trashing it, I noticed the crown. It was found at the same spot the two Royal Regiment of Artillery buttons were found three weeks back. (See my avatar for the better of the two buttons).

Someone suggested a box plate, but I am leaning more toward a cap badge. Any Revolutionary War experts here?

My scrap pile consists of pull tabs, screwcaps and fencing sraps!! Graet find Neil, Gotta love history and poissible stories.
