Hello all you fisher coinstrike users. Lets start by saying Thank You too MarkCZ for giveing me a chance too own one of the Best fisher units on the market.Im not new too the fisher line ive owned the cz 3-d and id-excel and loved them but i kind of liked the id-excel over the cz 3-d so im sure i will love the coinstrike. so if there is any body out there that could share there experiences useing the coinstrike my ears and eyes are open. I also will be doing videos and taking pictures with the coinstrike this spring. My youtube account name is (sasquache2 ) so come check my videos out i have already on there. Sasquache

Hi Sasquache. Glad to meet another C$ user. I have two, my only two detectors these days. I switch back and forth, actually one or the other would be a backup if needed. I think its a great detector. At first I didn't like it, wasn't grasping how to work it but as I kept using it then it became easy for me. If you're not familiar with it then it will take some time learning. My soil is not mineralized so I can usually keep the Threshold at 0 and Sensitivity at 10, thats maxed out. If your soil is mineralized then drop the Thresh to minus 20 or more, and drop the Sens a little to keep it stable in that kind of soil. I use All Metal mode in the woods, if I start getting lots of signals close to each other I switch to Disc mode. All Metal covers a wider path and is a little deeper. Don't mess with the 3 Memories yet till you figure out this detector. I have all 3 coils but the 8" is my favorite. I tested it against a CTX3030 on a freshly buried Merc, the 3030 was a hair deeper but that is the latest and very expensive detector. If you have any specific questions I'll try to help. HH, Dave

Thank you Dave for the great info ! I am new too the coinstrike but not Fisher and i probably will need some advice as i go along this spring i most likely will hip mount the contral box i kind of like that idea. SAS

The detector is not heavy with the 8" coil. I can swing the 10" coil for 3 hours but the 8" does just as well. I had the ID Edge for about 2 years. Then I wanted to try the C$. I had both at the same time. On some tests they seemed about equal in depth, the Edge is no slouch. But the C$ could ID deeper stuff better it seemed so I sold the Edge. Running at max, like I do, is a little too sensitive sometimes for stable ID. They say tune it down a little with Threshold for better ID. The All Metal sound is horrible but that is the nature of the beast. I rigged up both of mine with 7 AA rechargeable batteries. I plug the charger into the jack at the battery pack after each hunt. Battery pack is mounted on the right side of the arm cuff. A wood dummy battery (wired to the new batt pack) now is in one of the battery compartmnets, where the real 9 volt went. It's all home made, works good, never have to buy 9v batts. FYI, the detector will run on just one 9 volt installed in either compartment. What state are you in? HH, Dave

That sounds fantastic jabbo i have a feeling im in for a treat with the oinstrike. I live in northern Maine so im not too sure on soil mineralization but im sure it isnt on the low end.Sas

Click on SEARCH (see above) and type in Coinstrike, All Dates, etc. You will get plenty of info from C$ users, past and present. C$ has a salt mode too, SO or SI (looks like 5O and 5I) will show as you scroll thru the menu. (Salt Out, Salt In). And NO means Notch Out.

Now that you have a tracking number (I sent that in a PM a minute ago) here is a couple of starter tips.

(1) Don't try and start out with the factory programed coin program, its setup to hot for a new user.
(2) Leave the Disc control set to 99, its only iron anyway. (unless your going to relic hunt)
(3) Set the sensitivity to 5 or 6 and the threshold to minus 20.
(4) I usually set the notch to reject foil, set the other three to except.
(5) The volume on the C$ is a real blast, if you don't have headphones with a volume limiter a setting of 10 will be REAL LOUD on shallow finds!!!
(6) Unlike the CZ the C$ likes a little bit more of a brisk sweep speed, you don't have to mow grass or swing it fast enough to work at it.
(7) Rusty bottle caps are a problem for the C$ and in areas where its heavily populated with them, they can be a real problem. When you hit a rusty round object watch the display not just the sound. What it does is it will give the positive number and you hear that so you look at the meter, change the direction of your sweep and watch the meter, if its iron it will also read the same negative number which you don't hear, this is one indicator the target is most likely round and iron, if you don't get that negative reading then you better dig it. The display on the C$ is "All Metal" the disc and the notches only effect the audio report.
#8 Give it some time and enjoy!

I learned something here from Mark. He is saying the coil is always working in All Metal mode even when you are detecting in Disc mode. Disc mode changes the audio circuit not the coil circuit. I guess all detectors work that way. In Disc Mode it's important to be centered over the target to get the best ID.

Well the detector's VID circuit reads ALL targets regardless of discrimination levels so, I guess you could call that side of the circuitry all metal. That may be one of the reasons that the C$ when switched to its "All Metal Mode" its a all metal "Motion" mode, but still keeping a non motion pin-point mode.

The problem with rusty bottle caps is because of there size and shape they will give a good target tone on some passes, but on other passes at a different directions it will give the equal negative number, which means if the Iron disc is set above that negative number you don't hear response, so you don't check the meter. If your in an area with rusty caps, cross sweep over the target and if you don't see the negative equal then its a little more likely to be a keeper.

Thank you Mark for all those great tips cant wait too try it out come spring.

Plenty of times I've seen an equal positive and negative number. Wasn't sure what it ment, rarely dug them.

Normally iron, normally a rusty bottle cap. (or the like, maybe a coin size washer ect..)

Now, if its a good target (keeper coin) along with a smaller piece of iron you might still get a negative response but it won't be near an equal negative. In this case your possibly getting a response from two targets, one good and one bad.

If you guys keep this discussion going... you're going to cause me to put my CZ's aside and dig out my CoinStrike. :)

Thanks for the informative conversation.

I had a CZ7aPro several years ago. As I recall the C$ and the CZ have about the same depth, but I didn't have them side by side to compare. Is your soil mild or mineralized. Jabbo

Both of my C$'s were every bit as deep as my CZ7a-pro, now I don't know that they are any deeper, but for sure as deep.
My West Virginia soil is probably about average, all the detectors that I've had in the past that had manual ground balance always balanced out real close to the pre-set point.

Jabbo... you caught me at a loss for an answer.

I've had the CoinStrike for a couple of years and I haven't even got around to taking it out for a decent day's hunt yet.

I purchased it at a respectable price at the time (unfortunately much higher than today's asking prices) because I thought it was going to be the cutting edge of Fisher's next generation of coin detectors... only to find the CS had been discontinued by Fisher a short while after my purchase.

I will say... I still find it difficult to put the CZ's aside and pick up the CS because I'm used to the slower sweep speed of the CZ.

"Jabbo" and I agree that as good as the CZ's are we weren't that happy with the large blocks of the VDI. So, the numeric VDI on the C$ grabbed are attention and I don't say that to put the CZ down, they are very well known as excellent detectors.
And for me I've found that I don't always have to use the faster sweep with the C$ all the time, if I'm hunting shallow like more modern fair grounds then I can swing it pretty darn slow and it does fine, but! if I'm hunting older deeper target then I have to pick up the swing speed a bit to get the extra depth.

Mark

Thanks Mark, I thought the same thing too about the depth comparison. I like the C$ better, mostly because it has a much more refined meter pisplay, not just 5 icons as on the CZ I had.

I found my first gold ring with a CoinStrike. It was on a large safety pin with another, gold plated ring with it. My iron settings disc'ed out the safety pin, and the rings were masked by my too slow sweep speeds, but I knew where I was hunting had to have something good, so I kept sweeping the same little area over and over until suddenly, up came some positive numbers. And I got two rings, one 10k and one gold plate.

Two rings in one hole? That could be the first ever. Some one probably took them off and put them on the safety pin for safe keeping. I lost my wedding band at the beach while metal detecting. I took it off my finger and put it in my pocket, I should have kept it on my finger.
