cant make up my mind

Ok I'm stuck trying to make up my mind between the e-trac or the safari. Take all the features away other than recovery speed and depth how do the 2 units compare in those 2 areas? I only have 1500 to spend i could get a safari and a large SEF coil or something. OR just get the e-trac and stay with the stock coil. Any one have any advice? I'm not new at this hobby ive been detecting since 1986.

I have not used the Safari but since this is the ETrac forum and I very happy with it's performance - go with the ETrac and never look back!

I havent tried the Safari yet, but am told it is similar to the Quattro which I did have and to me there is no comparison as the E-Trac is much better for what the cost is. I have a guy getting a Safari and will have to give it a try and it is a FBS like the E-Trac is, but it is like the vega is to the Corvette as they are both cars. I would use it with the stock coil or smaller coil like the X-8 of Sun Rays to make the learning easier. If you are on a budget of $1500 then stay with the stock Pro coil as it will do great, but I highly recommend the E-Trac.

For 1500 dollars you could also get a used Explorer SE with a Sun Ray probe and a large assortment of coils to boot. If you buy a Safari, use and enjoy it (get addicted), you are eventually going to end up buying the ETrac anyway. The Etrac is easier to learn than the SE, which if you are new to Mine Labs, the Etrac may be your best bet. The way I look at it is this, If you are using a Safari; not only will you be detecting sites where someone has already gone through with a more advanced machine, but many of those guys were really good with their more advanced Explorers. The Etrac kind of levels the playing field somewhat for the new to Minelab's guy. The difference of your finds between the two will make up the difference in the up front cost pretty quickly and eventually help you to afford coils and accessories in the future. If it's a job you plan on doing over and over, sometimes daily, get the best possible tool for that job you can afford.

Hey thanks a lot looks like the e-trac wins and not just cause of yall. I have been reading a lot and i think i like the etrac the best from what I have read.
I have allways used fishers and done well with them but i want to try the minelab brand this time. Nothing wrong with fishers. Ill never give up my cz6a just moving it to a back up position in my detector line up.
I have the e-trac emulator and the user manual for the e-trac so I'm learning as much about it as i can before i get it.
Thanks again.

Kellyco is giving a free detector with the E-Trac right now. Not a bad deal check it out.
