CANT DISSASEMBLE XTERRA 70

LPB

New member
This is dumb but I can't disassemble my XTERRA 70. The rods, BOTH IF THEM, are stuck fast, I can't even move them a 32nd.
And yes I do push in the locking buttons.

Thanks for any help,

larry b

1. Just making sure, are the locking collars loosened?
2. Put a little WD40 in each hole where the rods are telescoped together & let it set 10 minutes.
3. Slowly work the rods(apply a bending pressure from different directions).
4. Repeat step 2
5. Repeat step 3 etc etc until you can feel/hear them start to give way.

Now push the button and grasping with a rag twist left/right as you pull them apart.

The WD40 is going to be smelly & messy, so best done outside. If you're a real glutton for punishment you can use something like Liquid Wrench, but then your detector is going to smell like a freshly cleaned gun for about a month.:lmfao:

I had the same thing happen to me a while back. I think it comes from moisture getting in and then seizing. I tried the WD40 trick, but it didn't work. I had to put the rod in a bathtub overnight, and then it came apart easily. After that, I coated it with WD before reassembling it, and now I can take it apart fairly easily.
