I found this today I think it is a love token made out of a silver kreuzer. It is about the size of a dime. The front says "Immanuel and Maria" Don't sound German. The back has a nice old style German eagleon it.I am trying to get some good pictures of the cannonball that I found last week but I can't seem to master the resizing from the camera. I also got some minnies and some grape shot. I found a nice old coin also but it is still soaking. I think I can see a 17 on it but it has lots of tarnish .Hope to get the other pics straightened out soon. Thanks for looking and HH. :)The wagonwheel was a flea market find. Ten euro (about 13 bucks).

Just got the cannonball pictures resized. It took me a while to figure out how to get them small enough .I had to just keep resizing the pics over and over till they fit.HH

Hi Birdman, I really like your photos. I've never seen a love token before. I would think they'd be hung on a chain. Have you ever found a chain with one? I also like you wagon wheel. I drove through a place one a few years back, in the mountains of NSW, and come across many wagon wheels just thrown to the side of the road. If only I had a trailer, I would have picked up a few for my garden!

Immanuel is a name meaning "God Who Is With Us" ...which is a religious title for Jesus.
Maria is the Latin (and also Spanish and Italian) form of the name Mary.
So it could be that you've got a German coin made into a Catholic "religious love-token/medallion."

However, for many centuries those two names have been given to human children in certain European and Hispanic
countries ...so perhaps what you found is just the typical kind of love-token, engraved for two ordinary humans
like (let's say) a man named Immanuel Montalban and his wife Maria Lopez ...rather than specifically meaning
the orginal Jesus and Mary.

Cannonball guy really cool information. It could be a religious medal.
Angela ,this is the first one that I have found but I have seen them posted before. I think it was big in the late 1800s . The older style of love token was a bent coin. Not sure what that meant but any one that knows some of the history on the tokens can fill us in.
The wood spooks on the wheel are pretty rotted. I put several coats of tung oil on them for preservation.
