cannon ball fragment

I take it that this is Fort Erie across the mouth of the Niagara river from Buffalo? I visited there once and said to my buddy that I bet there could be buttons in those stone potholes in the lake bottom just off shore. Sure enough, while reading "History Written with a Pick and Shovel" I found an account of a guy that found a lot of buttons from the fort in those potholes back in the 1890's. Probably by now they have been worn down to the point you couldn't read them anymore.

Have you ever thought of checking that out?
