Can anyone tell me the orgin of buttons with an Anchor that say "Canal De Vieux" on them. I am a Civil War relic hunter in Richmond VA and I found one of these in a strickly Confederate Camp but no one seems to think much of the button. I found several Script "I" in the vicinity also.

Thank you for your input!!!!

From what Ive found they are modern fashion buttons.
Some people trying to sell them say they are french navy But Ive seen no proof of that so far.
I have found several modern coats with them on. online.

i agree the pattern is used today, but I did find one, several inches deep, in a Confederate camp. This one is of two piece construction with a silver wash and good Patina. I cannot provide photo's, sorry.
