One year, I went north in Michigan to Mackinaw on July 4th, Canada was celebrating their Independence along with us, in Michigan, and the U.S, in that area.....….There was a FANTASTIC parade on the 4th in Cheboygan, both Canadian and U..S. entries, bagpipe bands, and wonderful Native American entries....Mounties in their very colorful attire, on horses...…Later that night, there was a gathering at Mackinaw crossings in Mackinaw City, Native Americans sitting around their drums, playing and chanting, screeching, while their Dancers were 'doing their thing' in very colorful attire, with the ladies explaining what the dances meant....toward the end, they had what was referred to I think as 'The Peace Dance',and they went into the audience (MANY THERE), and selected folks to join them in their dance, I was included.....Men, women, all nationalities, and races, I was honored to be asked to participate.…..They played both "O CANADA!", and "The Star Spangled Banner", at the beginning and the end, and MUCH respect was shown by all and also TO all, lots of folks made MANY new friends with folks from 'our neighbors From The North',and visa-versa,, that day and night, amen.... Also, that night, we seen fireworks in Mackinaw City, Mackinaw Island, St. Ignace and Cheboygan, all at the very same time!! GREAT MEMORIES!!
