:canadaflag:Garrett and detectors in general

Leslie(nova scotia)

Garrett without a doubt as a company have kept up their great customer service....as for the machines they produce......well.

Seems that the cost has gone up while the quality has gone down.

Have spent enough on shipping and repairs of my Pro that I actually could have brought an Ace 250.

Sad thing is the pro I will not use in water as it may leak and has a rainbow across the LCD display when used in that element. Garrett indicated it was normal due to the temp change affecting the plastics used in the display. Another time they replaced the guts (circut boards) and then again.

Loyal Garrett user only but a loyal older Garrett user only as the Pro is just a back up. Did serve me well in the UK with the fact that you bouys get lots of rain.

If one were to add 1/10 of an inch depth for every year their company put out a new detector one would need a backhoe as a digging tool.....Garrett are not the only manufactures that promised this!

Machines are at their apex and like the kids now days of generation "Y" with their cell phones......who needs them with all their bells and whistles........give me a machine like the Freedom 3 Plus that just.....................beeps! 43 years now a swinging!

Leslie, the only thing I can add is that everything is matter or perspective. You have obviously got a machine with issues which Garrett, to their credit, have tried to address.

But consider two things: all of the AT users who have not had the first problem with their machine. Also, we have bear in mind how many of the AT series machines Garrett has built due to their popularity. Thousands? Tens of thousands?

Simple law of averages: some of those units are going to have defects. They just will. It's inevitable.

Sounds like you got one, and that really stinks. I also can't blame you for feeling a bit sour since it has taken four fixes and yet it still does not seem to be functioning at 100% capacity.

All of our experiences are different. Sad to hear yours has not been the best.

I understand what you may be feeling Leslie. My brand new ATP had some issues, particularly with the land phone connection pins falling apart. Since a bit of sorting out this machine has been rock solid for me though, over the long term. I kind of wish that I had never sold my ACE 250 actually, it was such a simple and honest machine.

I have been reading your posts on and off for some 5 years now. While so many kept changing detectors to get a better feel, better depth or just a better experience, you were always consistent with your old Garrett. You showed me it's more in the man knowing his detector, no matter it's age or manufacturer.

I feel sorry that you cannot feel that you have gained something better for your investment. But you know the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

But the other old saying is "Fool me once, fool on you. Fool me twice, fool on me"

I hope you find a viable solution.
