:canadaflag:First swish with the 1280x

From the land of the Bluenose.....the yard sale went well over the weekend but unfortunately Marie is now under the weather with a cold and such so spent most of the day taking care of her.

Took off for an hour and went to a lake that is about 10 minutes from home and fired up the Fisher.

First impression of the Fisher was that it was not on as it is so quiet and a tad on the heavy side compared to the Seahunter. Notched the discrimination half way as with the volume control which is a great feature. Coil is larger and the wire to the headphones appeared to be much more rugged. Have Rick from Sweetdreams Detector hooking me up with an extra battery pack (one in it a tad finnigy) and a hip mount.

For the pleasant half hour that I used it it was a joy and doesn't chatter or fad in and out like the Seahunter. Managed 13 coins at 39 cents, a dinkie and a religious medal thingie. Overall first swish was a success but from the reviews I'll limit it to fresh water and leave her home when I go south this winter!

Any advice on the operation of this machine appreciated!

Well don't underestimate the 1280x... I set the disc at 3 to 3 1/2 volume full (I'm hard of hearing) and sens at as high as it will run without chattering but just a tad. Great depth and lots of good finds with mine.

Go ahead and wind out the SENS and then back off a touch to clean up the chatter. Then run the DISC at the point where the most common iron trash for you locale starts to flutter and break up the audio. This is usually nails and smallish stuff like screws. You will probably end up in the general foil range, which is about right.
Then, finally, turn the volume up to a comfortably high level.
That is it! Having the controls right there at hand is great.

The Aquanaut is also good and rugged. It is a little wiggly in the hand grip/rod area, but this amounts to little. Overall it is tough enough and the coil is tops.

I predict you will like it a whole plenty bit, me buoy! You may even grow so fond of VLF iron discrimination in fresh water that the SH MK II gets left behind more often. Check me and see.

Dang, now I want another one!

BTW Les i made a chest mount for my 1280 out of a set of heavy duty carpenders suspenders...works great and the weight is not a problem.

Hey Leslie....I made a homemade hip mount out of a short piece of 1-1/2" or 2"(can't remember) PVC that I heated with a blow drier and flattened then ground down the edges to slide into the control housing. Had a factory one on order but had to go huntin! :twodetecting:
The only problem I've had in the past 4 yrs with hipmounting, is the housing wants to float, and when your hunting in water hip deep, and there are waves, it gets kinda annoying the housing floating up and down. Good luck! Kieth

..Ive found that it chatters if you have the sensitivity much over 8-AND WATCH .OUT FOR THE LEADS ON THE BATTERY PACK-MINE WAS TOO SHORT FROM THE FACTORY,and it finally broke off the sldered connector end this year.....I took it to Radio Shack, had a new lead soldered on with an extra 3-4"in the wire-charged me $5 bucks!!!would be an EASY FIX for y'all out there whom have the equipment to do it..........you can also get an adapter from Fisher(I have it)to run the control box UNDER the stem;or you can disconnect it completely from the stem, for attatching to a belt.......
