:canadaflag:At Pro sprung a leak...sucks!

From the land of the Bluenose....after avoiding using the AT Pro in the water I took it out about 10 times and on the next trip she got water in the faceplate and fog so bad I couldn't see the read out. Next day she seemed dry and no residue of moisture in the face plate. My first though is where did it go? Anywat with the UK trip close at hand I have to hope that the Pro will still function well enough to be my back up on the trip. machine has a one year warranty which i will take advantage of once home. Thought of sending it to Garrett but the turn around time doesn't fit. Over 35 years a Garrett only user.............................have aright to express my opinion...........newer is not always better! Seahunt mk 11 and off course the Freedom 3 Plus.......in this bouys mind Garrett has not kept up since!

Sorry to hear that. Just got mine back from Garrett after sending it in for upgrades and leakage issue...it was a 3-4 week turn around time. Wish you the best!

Sorry to hear about that Leslie. It sounds like it might be a quality assurance issue in that there have been a number of AT's springing up a leak. My brother inlaw is an electronics hardware designer, and after he designs an item, he allows for a certain amount of cheaper component to be used, which when the factory sees the specs, goes for the cheapest components on the list on more than they should, resulting in problems. When he has to find out what happened, that's the common problem, so he has had more than a couple of arguments with the factory about taking too many short cuts and build to a standard and not a price. Although very frustrating for you, I expect that they get on top of it pretty quick. I know how you feel as I've had to send both my X-terra's back for repair a few times each and I wasn't happy.
You are quite right about new not necessarily being better. Once a great detector has been built, it will always be that. Think of the designs that have been on the market for more than 10 years! A real testament to that fact, especially when electronic components normally have a technological shelf life of only being current for 2 years!
Mick Evans.

Not true, not true!! Garrett has made some great detectors since that Fr.3+. How many of them have you been through?? Seems I remember quite a few so they weren't so perfect either. Methinks you have just become so accustomed to the Fr.3+ that anything else you try doesn't work the same and you give up on it. I agree, the ATP still needs some tweaks and it's timing to spring a leak couldn't have come at a worse time for you, but hang with it cuz when it's right and you get used to it, It'll run circles around that Fr.3+. I've already sent my first ATP in 3 times and the second one once but I'm not giving up cuz they've both paid for themselves in gold already. Patience young man, patience!!
BTW, the water you are seeing in there is between the faceplate and the LCD, probably no more than a couple of drops worth. It won't get to the electronics, should work fine on your trip, just don't dunk the control housing till you can get it in for the upgrade (well worth the $40)

Good luck in England and post those pics of really old English stuff!!!
