Well, something like that, Les. It's also relevant that you have a vastly different instrument now, than your Freedom III's.

The opened up discrimination, i.e. Iron range ID features is intended to help you know when you have come across such refuse in the soil. It is a wise move on Garretts part.
This is because that stuff will mess with a detector and you'll never know it.

I'm not kidding. One of the things I do is deliberately bring the iron audio into play. It's one reason why my other favorite detectors are the F70/F75 from Fisher.
Because of instruments like these, I've learned that most detecting in urban or populous areas is affected by it.
Folks are merrily punching up the discrimination to eliminate "trash," and are inadvertently causing response masking from the very crap they wish to cancel out.
