can you stand to swing the compadre all day?

since i have my clean sweep coil it seems imposible to go to a small coil as it seems it would take a life time to cover a play feild, any one have that problem? or what are the benifits of the small coil?

even its hard to go back to the 8 inch coil after using the clean sweep

Depends on where you are using it. If it's a large area then it's a daunting task. I was using mine in a small area about (40x80') and found a lot of coins and a silver ring. Just took my time and worked it. And in trashy areas you have a choice of not detecting it or using the Compadre, I will surely pick the Compadre every time.

Diggerdug is correct. If you are hunting a forest or ball field , you may want to use a large coil. But trust me hit an old county fair grounds or an old drive in, and use a big coil good luck. You will hit 6 targets per sweep, where is the good one?, smaller coil makes this type of task easy.

Also one thing to note. If I am hunting a trashy area its better to just cover a 10x10 section very good than try to cover the entire area. The goods may be right under you, but you are hitting 5 targets at one time with a large coil its harder to sort the good ones, unless you just crank the disc up to silver, but then you will not get any gold.

To understand it better you really should try one out. Also they pinpoint so good its scary..maximum hole size is 5.75 inches big. .. (coil size).

Also something to think about with the smaller coil is you are forced to cover an area slower. Therefore you will be able to hit more targets. Do we really want to clean out an area in one hunt? By the time you get finished sweeping an average sports feild the side you started with might be reloaded already. Slower = more overlap = more fun

The thing about the Compadre is more finds per area covered. Now it may be teeny charms, canslaw, etc. The word "thorough" comes to mind. It's about to the point I'm afraid NOT to use it for fear of missing something. I've never seen a metal detector this thorough in the low discriminate mode. It's really awesome to behold.

In a large open area, like a field or a beach, using a Compadre might be frustrating for some due to the fact that less area is covered with each sweep.

However, those that go low and slow and take their time tend to get bigger rewards.

So its just a matter of how much time you're willing to take.

I like hearing others poopoo the Cleansweep/Bigfoot/BigDawg coils. Makes me smile. The longer I'm the only one in my area using one the happier I am.

Not sure anyone was Poopooing the large coils, as it has its place. But the Smaller coil has its places as well. Honestly I like to just switch detectors instead of switching coils on the site im on if having trashy issues. This is quicker but it like how I fish, with 6 rods all set up different to just quickly switch if needed.

I also heard from an engineer from Tesoro that posts on the forums that when you change from a stock coil to bigger coil that cleansweep, you are supposed to send it in to Tesor to be reset for best performance.

I did not know that.

As I understand it, that may be somewhat variable. Many times a different coil will work quite well with no tweaking. However, If you are going to use a coil of a different size a lot, it may be worth sending in the detector to make sure it is calibrated to be OPTIMAL with that coil. I'm speaking from experience with several preset Tesoros and I haven't felt the need to have them tweaked for the different coils I use at all. I'll add that's in my soil which is generally mild. If you're using a detector with manual ground balance, you shouldn't need to worry about this issue at all.

I like the CSC when covering sports fields etc. but if I'm going to be swinging for a long time, I prefer the stock coil due to the weight difference. As far as finds go, I've done pretty well with both.

they cost more but cover ground way faster, and pinpointing is a breez, you will get your money back faster with one if all you find is coins, iv been finding on average between 60 and 90 dollars a month in coins, i havent found gold and just one peace of silver a small heart.
