Can you select between inches and cm on the new CoRe depth?

bigtim1973

Well-known member
Was wondering if the newer version of the Core has the option to switch between cm or inches for the depth readout? Thanks

To my knowledge === NO...

And please don't let that petty reason shy you away from the detector. With a little practice you can do the conversion in your head to inches!!!

Oh it is not by any means. I already have the version with the rocker switches. I have a couple of friends fixing to purchase one relatively soon. I wanted to just let them know. By all means it is probably the absolute best machine I as far as I am concerned. If I was still a dealer I would be selling them out myself!!! Best bang for the buck period in its price range!!

You got that right. I like how well it is made too. It has very simple controls and it performs like a champ. All of my friends are going Nokta. I got 3 buddies right now making the switch. I know they are not gonna be let down either.

No you can't but it would be nice if Nokta would add that to the library menu to be able to do!

Tim-----In what way(s) do you consider the CoRe to be better than the Racer?-----Just curious.

Hello D&P-OR, I have not even held a Racer in my hand yet but that is all going to change this week. But if you are considering between the two I would advise you look at the controls for both machines, they are just about the excact same type of settings, and also they are the same on how you adjust the settings. If you want to know why I prefer the CoRe over lets say the Racer, it would be just an ergonomic preference, not saying I would not enjoy having a Racer. They take the same batteries and look to have the same type of rod and cam lock system. I like the handle of the CoRe and it is very comfortable to swing. I also like the fact that all of the controls are on the side box out of the way but the VDI number and depth read out is on top of the hand grip on the CoRe. WIth the Racer you have the control paramiters right below the display. You can make on the fly adjustments on the Racer with this set up. I however will grab the rod and check the hole with my detectors to see where the target may be in the ground still. With the main brains of the unit being under the arm cuff, I am not as prone to knock the detector over on its side. It is real easy to just grab your average diplay on top of handle set up and knock the machine over on its side, while reaching for it. With the CoRe you do not have a screen wider than the S-Rod to hit and knock it over. It is out of the way. It is also about 60 bucks cheaper than the Racer. I understand that they are sister companies and truth be told, I bet the coils will work with one another as well. As far as perfomance is concerned, and if a hobbyist is on a budget, it will keep up with all of the other units priced 300 bucks and more than the CoRe is. If you have ever swung a Teknetics G2, Omega, T2 or a Fisher F-75 you will get spoiled with their rod set up. I was looking for an awesome unit with a rod set up similar to the FT line up. I have found it with the CoRe. And if your wondering, it hits harder on civil war bullets than a T2 will. For what you get in performance for price, you cannot beat the CoRe. I know the Racer guys are enjoying their unit too but I cannot really speak for those users. These again are my opinions and I am not trying to step on anyones toes but, from my own personal experiences, I am probably going to stick with the Nokta brand period. I have my reasons for the change too but like I have said previously, it would start a big stink here on the forum and I am not gonna do that. If your looking for the best priced new unit out there period, I would go with the CoRe.

Hi Tim------Thank you for answering my questions.---I appreciate it & you made some very good points.-----One thing---the coils on the CoRe & Racer aren't interchangeable.---The company themselves made that statement.-----Enjoy your CoRe, you have a fine machine!-----------Del

Your welcome Del. I went and looked at your post and saw you own a Racer. Mind sharing your thoughts on it compared to the FT units you used in the past? Also thanks about the coils not being interchangeable too. I have not read that on their website previously. My buddy is getting a racer this week and he is gonna let me tinker with it a bit. I am looking forward to seeing it. HH, Tim

Hello again Tim-----Well, my wife & I both have the F-19 & Racer and really like both of those units.----We have done well with either of them for both coins & relics.----IMO, the F-19 is a little more precise/closer on I.D. #'s but I love the better separation of the Racer (or I'm sure the CoRe)--with the small coil on board.-----I think either the F-19 or the CoRe (what little I've handled it) balances/swings MUCH better with the 11" coil than the Racer does with that coil.----The Racer is just fine with either the 5X10 or the small coil.----I really like the tones ( three tones) on the Racer (with Sunray Pro Golds).-----To me, the Racer is just kinda "addictive"---the more I use it--the more I want to use it (and the more I like it).:)-----For me, right now at this point in time & the types of hunting I'm currently doing (mucho iron AND non-ferrous trash)---I find myself mostly using the Racer with the small coil (sometimes 5X10) as my "main grab" machine.

Yes I will agree that the F19 has a faster processor than the Racer. The FT line up are really light machines. The core feels so natural because I think the control housing under the arm cuff acts as a counter weight. I too am still learning the numbering system of the core. It is very similar to some of the teknetics numbering system except on the beer can slaw. It does read higher it seems than the FT line up did. I do however know what is what now as far as a coin number from can slaw. DImes read up 85-86 here in the area I live in. I do check the zinc penny signals still just to make sure that is what it is. It has a fast enough processor for me. I am debating on selling my other 2 units just because I do not believe I will be using them often or if at all anymore. Heck I have even ordered the Nokta pinpointer now. If I could locate a Nokta finds pouch, I may even get one of those too!!!! HH, Tim

You will like that Nokta pin pointer Tim! I love mine and it is without question spot on!

Good to know that Mtsheron! I watched the YouTube comparison videos on it. I was just gonna buy the black model that resembled the old whites bullseye but shelled out the cash for the orange one. It should be here by friday. On another note since I have started this thread, 3 of my buddies have all got a nokta unit now and also one of them purchased a racer too. The one who got a racer also bought a CoRe and he ordered a CoRe at the same time for another friend too. They all came today. Last Sunday I got a chance to check out a Fors Gold unit that another friend got last week. It is very nice looking and has a gold colored rod and control box. The vdi numbers are the same as the CoRe. It has the DI3 search option too. You can coin hunt with it as well. The coils are white and there is a cover with a solid bottom that I would like to get for my CoRe so it doesn't get caught in saplings and stuff. This Friday my buddy and I are going to lunch together and he is bringing his Racer. I am looking forward to seeing it in person. Dang look at what kind of trouble I have been causing here in TN!!! Just kidding though.

On Kellyco's web retail site I saw that the Gold version had the the s-shaped rod and middle and lower shaft and wondered if those were interchangeable so it seems they may be! You know I giess the only difference is the Gold version works on another base frequency but otherwise the same exact unit and like you said the white coils and covers. I like those white coils......easy to spot!

You should get commission from Nokta for that feat for sure! The Fors is a great unit and so far I have killed the pennies with it! It is always a steady 82 TID and coppers come up as a 83 mainly and sometimes they will hit a 82. I just need to find some real coinage now! I may pay for this unit in pennies one day if I keep finding them like I have been.

Yes that Nokta waterproof pointer is awesome. I have found one thing that happened once the other day......I had the setting on most sensitive and I almost had to touch an object to get a response whereas most often it will hit up to 5" away most often on that setting. I simply took the battery out then put back in and started the pointer up again and it was fine. Not sure why it would do that but no biggie for sure.

Even though I sold all my equipment, I do have some words for all.. Listen for a sweet tone with no vdi at all and be prepared to dig deep !! Great finds await !!

Depth ID is rarely accurate on any machine. I just use it for a general gauge - surface, a little deeper, or deep. You can do that with the cm readout.
