can you relic hunters id this shell for me

cody found this shell at the site of an old 1830 ghost town this morning and i have never seen one this small. about the size of a button. i put a wheat penny beside it for size one is the top of it the other pic is bottom. your opinion would be appreciated
 
it might be a 410 shot shell,you should be able to soak it for a while and see what the marks on the bottom,it is made of brass
 
it's too small to be a 410 and that's what puzzles me. it's only the size of a button on the cuff of a shirt.all i can make out is the number 57
 
i just found on a search they did make 57 caliber rifle shells with black powder during the civil war wonder if it could be one of those

I can't tell much from the picture. Is it just the brass part of a shotgun hull, or is it a cartridge of some type? If it is just the brass part of the hull I would agree it is a .410 bore. Onus

yes just the brass part it says peters 410 hv
