Can you put Digital Pictures on CD-R disk and view on DVD player???

Hello,
I just bought a Sony DVD player and thought I would be able to copy digital Mavica pictures to a CD-R and then view them on the new DVD player (the salesman said i could) NOT !
I just tried it and the DVD player doesn't recognize the disk even being in the player. I need help. My computer does see the pictures on the CD when i try viewing from the CD so I know the pictures are on the CD.
Is there any software out there that will convert the digitl pictures into a "DVD readable format" and then allow me to burn it to a CD-R? ... thereby allowing me to view all my digital pictures on the huge t.v. downstairs????
What is the name of some of the software that may do this??
There must be a way, I would think? I just got the idea now so I have seen any options out there. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Ted

It has me wondering too. I have a dvd player, in our Roscommon place that will play CD,DVD, and MP3's. I get up there and I am gonna try that. It probably won't do it but it would be nice if it did. Hummmm <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
