Can you nail this one?

I found this in July. I haven't been able to find any information on it. I checked nail sites, but could not find anything. It is copper and looks like it has never been used.

:rage:

It appears to be a date nail without the date. They were used on railroad ties and power poles. I have quite a collection of them. None like yours. Mine are all iron with just a date.

There is at least one other example of a "factory sample" type Hubbard
nail. This is a copper Hubbard made for the Chase Co. It is in the
collection of Scott Weed <nailhunter@houston.rr.com> of Houston, TX.
Here is a scan of Scotts nail:

... only different. Probably run of the mill.

The one I found was at a house that burned down. Lots of square roofing nails that said chase on them was there also. All hit as a penny.

...back in the days before barcoding and labels they embossed everything. Ive seen the railroad nails and locks and tags and old bottles and everything else with makers names and marks on them.
