if its weird...I will find it!

Here is the reverse side

Is this the inscription ?. 同志
If so I think,
The inscription reads tong zhi . Tong Zhi was the reign title of Emperor Mu Zong (1862-1874) of the Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty.
A charm or commemorative coin maybe.

I cannot get chinese to copy and paste but search for "Tong Zhi Tong Bao"

Don't know of any Chinese coins with dates like that on them. Usually Chinese symbols on both sides, or plain on one side.

I didnt think of that! That would make sense....I think you are right about it being a token/charm, as I would think... if the symbols are in chinese then the dates should be also. True?
