Can You ID This Pin Or Tie Clip? Military?

Sorry the pics aren't better. I found this last year hunting a empty house lot. It rang in the pulltab range if I remember right and what made me dig it was that it had a very "quality" sound to it, unlike a lot of junk in that range can sound.

I doubt it's silver because of the low reading but it sure looks like silver. I suspect it's aluminum though due to the ID from memory, unless the eagle on the front is bringing down the ID while the rest is silver, because the eagle looks like a darker metal of some sort.

It's got an eagle on the front, and the second picture is a side view with the alligator-like clip. I'm guessing it's at least some kind of boyscouts clip or perhaps military? If you know what it is please give me an idea of age and such. Thanks.

It's been sitting in my truck's console since I found it and this morning I looked at it again and thought "Time to find out about this thing."

There may be some info stamped on it somewhere, if so that would help with the ID.

Colonel pin for US Air Force tie?

Does it look like this http://www.armedforcesinsignia.com/?pn=AIR+FORCE+TIE+CLASP+MIRROR+FINISH+COLONEL&cn=Tie+Tacs%2C+Clasps+%26+Cuff+Links&p=7576&c=114

I think it's a more realistic looking eagle than that one, Edjcox. I searched for a while but couldn't find any with the wings in that position...

Then we need a closer photo or one without the glare, one that shows more detail, it might be Army Air Corps.

Yep, it doesn't look like that eagle. More "realistic" like he said, but thanks for the effort. I'll try to get a better close up pic of it. I'll try the loop thing too and see if that works. Any tips on that? I'm guessing I put the manual focus on the camera all the way down to a close up, then stick the loop right on the end of it, then adjust the distance from the eagle until it looks best in the LCD screen view finder, and then snap the pic?

This stupid camera doesn't appear to give a good close up if I turn the focus to closest possible. That's why I have to keep adjusting the focus from all the way down to all the way up and take pics at different distances in the hopes of one coming out halfway decent.

Thanks again for all the help.

Does the camera have a macro mode, the icon for macro mode is a flower/daisy? That's the mode you need to use cor close ups.

Yea, the manual focus on the front (you just turn the lens) has the close up setting indicated by turning it all the way one direction, but just the same I've found it gives blurry pictures up close unless I shoot several from various distances and then sort through them on my computer for the clearest one. Really a PITA. Not even sure if one of those end up being the best for close ups, because then I take others with the lenses adjusted halfway up from that and then all the way to distance viewing, and at various distances away so I at least got one that will turn out to be clear enough to post pictures of my finds.

I'm going to try the loop thing with the close up setting, and vary the distance from the item, and see how that pans out.

This is an Aiptek pocket camcorder I picked up about 7 years or so ago. At the time it was a good buy at around $69 for a 5 mega pixel still shot with the ability to do super VHS and a few other resolutions in live video. Amazing how something seems so high tech and then only a few short years later it's like an antique. It uses a compact flash card, which is now a PITA as well since I have to pull out compact flash to USB adaptor so it'll interface with the computer.

Not too long ago many computers had the CF port right on them. I wish they'd settle on a format already and be done with it. I see some of these new memory card formats are tiny like a contact lens just about. Now I think that's going too far in size reduction, because it makes them very easy to loose.

Heck, I'm just now starting to buy CDs so I guess I'm always playing catch up. Just when I start replacing my tapes with CDs now CDs are going the way of the dinosaur.

Can't imagine how society will be so badly lost if we get a huge solar flare that burns out a bunch of electronics. There is such a thing as being too reliant on technology IMO, and I'm of the digital age generation so it's not like I'm some old guy stuck in the analog age.
