Can you check if your MXT does this

Was out this morning with the MXT Pro at a local baseball field and noticed if I lightly bump the coil up and down off the ground, it gives a high tone beep everytime it retouches the ground. Didn't notice this before. I have a 10" round DD Excellerator coil on and will have to check it with a different coil. Just don't think it should be doing this.

Check for a 'proper' Ground Balance!

Also, you didn't mention which mode you were in or the settings. Often, if in the Coin & Jewelry motion Discriminate mode, you won't hear any response unless the GB is significantly off from being proper.

If you are in the All Metal Prospecting mode, or if you are in the Relic program which can incorporate the Mixed Mode All Metal function, you're going to hear these types of responses. If you get an audio response (increase in audio) as the coil is moved close to the ground, it is an indication that the GB is a bit too positive.

If you hear a 'beep' when you lift the search coil away from the ground, that's a sign that the GB is set too negative for the ground mineral in that spot. In either case you just take 5-15 seconds to re-GB the unit and you're good-to-go.

Now, the other thing that can cause a problem, especially if 'touching' or 'bumping' a search coil on the ground causes a beep, is that you have a faulty search coil. It could be loose components (electronic) inside or simply the internal windings are unstable and the movement can cause it.

If the GB is set okay, and if the White's coils function w/o making a beep with the same type of 'touching,' then you have a search coil related issue.

Monte, thanks for the reply. I also noticed with it that I couldn't verify a GB using the clean ground, raise to waist and pull trigger and lower to ground procedure. Tried my 6x8 SEF coil and everything was fine, tried my 950 coil and everything was fine. Noticed when we took the Excellerator coil off there was some junk caught between the stem mount and coil. Put it back on and it seems to be working ok. I was in coin and jewelry and also relic modes.

Just a comment that you can forget that 'waist high" business because the search coil doesn't need to be raised that far from the ground. To effectively get a proper Ground Balance, or to check your current setting status, just raise the coil to about 6" to 8" above the ground and toggle into pinpoint, then lower it to about

Monte,
The junk was between the stem mount and coil, not in the coil cover. Yes, I know it might have caused a temporary fix by taking the coil off and re-installing it and will keep a careful watch on it to see if it happens again.
Thanks.

This is a very common problem with that brand of coils, and I did tests on them and spent over $1600 to find out the truth about them
now I will only use Whites coils and the money you can waste on coils to get more depth you might as well by a PI machine.
bottom line is that Whites make enough coils to do all that is needed,
Please note that Detech have a no return policy here in the UK because they won't pay the freight to send you a new or your repaired coil
