Hey guys, ive been detecting for about 3 years, i use a minelab etrac and a garrett 250, but ive been watching videos with the scorpion and i like it, can you tell me about it what makes it different the pros and cons, is it a good quality machine where does it rank between the 250 and 350, i would appreciate all the info

It is a totally different detector than the 250 or 350, but can be used for many things.
properly set up and with a 3 x 7 small coil will beep on dimes at 12" or .5 gram nuggett at 4 1/2 ". takes 100 hours to learn the operation according to Charles Garrett- and it does- so it is not a turn on and go, it is very sensitive, pinpointing off either tip of coil is SPOT ON, battery life is around 30 hrs +-
once you learn it ,it's hard to not use it, mebbe somebody else will jump in here, this is my Scorpions:garrett:

I bought my 1986 Gold Hunter Groundhog (GH) off of eBay to play with the "Legendary Garrett Groundhog Circuit" and as a backup for my White's GMT while prospecting. The thing shocked me with it's performance. I learned to Ground Balance (GB) it and use TR to discriminate targets, both normal and the reverse way, great mode to eliminate hot rocks, discrimination on iron was unbelievable. I bought the Infinium for prospecting because it flat out ignores hot rocks in my area and runs super stable. Never bonded with the GMT. So I sold it along with a Whites 5900 SL (great detector also). The GH is the old U shaped handle and weighs near 5lbs. I wanted the same machine in a modern light package so I bought the Scorpion. Does EXACTLY the same modes as the GH and has a fixed GB discriminate mode (like a 250/350) for coins in the park. So I got my old school GH detector (non-motion all metal is the best) in a lighter modern detector for a great price. Happy Camper! The Infinium is to hot to use in nail infested Ghost Town sites and the Scorp is great on detecting good targets under nails so I use it under those conditions. Expect some learning curve to master a Groundhog type detector but once you do you have versatile detector that can handle just about anything. Pretty deep too.

I've never used a 250 or 350 but would never buy a machine without manual GB. Build quality is great but not superior. Performance quality is excellent.

Cons are :

1) replacing the batteries, basically pull the guts out of cover but it is easy to do and batteries seem to last forever.
2) beach use in wet sand, I hear it works in TR mode but sounds like a pain. That's what the Infinium is for (secondary to prospecting of course).

Hope this helps...
