Can the cam locks be tightened?

I just received my Tejon I bought from the classifieds (thanks Don!) but the upper pole fits very loosely and the cam lock won't tighten it. I could add tape to the pole, but I was hoping for a more elegant solution. I would like to take that cam lock off and either shim it or replace it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

If it's upper one a small piece of electrical tape works great. Just put a small strip across the end where it doesn't interfere with the buttons. Slide it on until the buttons click in and tighten. Then cut off any excess tape so it won't be visible. The only time you will need to undo it is when you're shipping it.

A picture is worth a thousand words. If it's too tight to slip on, just cut a narrower piece of tape.

Yeah, that's what I've done in the past. I've often wondered if those cam locks can be removed and fixed. Ever try to take one off?

Thanks,

Dan

I ended up using the tape as you suggested. It was the easiest fix.

Did a couple of quick air tests with my new Tejon, and it's deep!! Can't wait to get it out in the field. It's been a couple years since I had one, so I might be a bit rusty.

Thanks,

Dan

I like a shim made from an aluminum pop can. I have had the locks off. You have to break the glue line.

The camlocks on my Whites and T2 started playing up and the bottom rod started moving a little,so i bought a couple of replacement shaft lock from the 4 letter website starting with a E and ending in a Y they are about the same price as the factory original camlocks but 20 times more reliable from a seller called rods_by_plugger and no i dont have any connection with this person just a happy customer.

I used a small blade on a small dremel drill and just cut the old problematic camlock off which took all of 60 seconds and the new ones take about the same time to put onto the shaft.

No more swaying bottom rods,i have changed all mine on my Whites DFX,T2,Pulse and Tesoro detectors, problem solved for ever.
