Can tell a quarter from an Aluminun can

My Explorer give the same signal for an aluminun can as for a recent US quarter! Can anyone help?
I have no dealers and apparently no other Explorer XS users to help in my area.
Thank you

Sorry my Subject should have read Can't not Can...
Its early here!

Often you can tell a coin from a can by the distance your detector picks it up as you raise the loop above the ground. A can will continue to produce beeps at greater distance than a coin. This may not always be the case but it has saved a lot of wasted digging for me.

The simplest thing you can do is get a quarter and a smashed soda can... do some testing with them. Bury them both at 4 inches deep and then sweep each one.... you should notice that the audio signal is more spread out and may warble at the edges over the can and be tighter, crisper over the quarter. Now go into pinpoint and resweep them. Again you'll notice the difference in how the quarter is a smaller signal and the can is more spread out. As already mentioned below, use the smartfind screen instead of digital... I don't ever recall a smashed aluminum can reading the same as a quarter in that mode. Good luck, Mike.
