Can someone explain this to me...

I've read in several places where some auto ground balance then set the number slightly more positive. What does this do and can I get a detailed desciption of what is going on and how it helps?

I like to set my X-70 or 705 in Auto GB. Then I check it manually to make sure it is perzack! Once I am convinced it is just right, I lower the ground phase number by 2 or 3 digits. I know it sounds backward. But setting it to a lower number is actually setting the ground phase more positive on the X-terra. To me, it fools the X-Terra into thinking the ground is a little more mineralized than it really is. The effect reminds me of having my sensitivity set at max in that the detector might chatter a little bit more than some folks can stand. But I am convinced that it allows deeper penetration in moderate soil conditions. JMHO HH Randy

in short, no. I seldom (hardly ever) use tracking. Setting the GB automatically while bobbing the coil provides the same result as running with tracking on for a few seconds while sweeping. (other that conflicting analyzation with targets getting in the way) If you used Tracking, you'd have to turn it off to set the GB positive on the X-70. On my 705, there is a tracking offset feature that does it for me. However, as I've mentioned before, the jury is still out on that feature (for me). I've used it several times, without being able to determine if it is actually doing what I think it is suppose to be doing. My soil doesn't change very dramatically. And many of the places I hunt have a multitude of targets with each sweep. As such, tracking is always adjusting up and down. Plus, I always take it out of tracking to X over the target, just to insure the target isn't considered part of the ground matrix. So for me, having a stable GB works just fine. The theory of tracking offset is an interesting concept. And I hope to learn more about it as time goes on. JMHO HH Randy

With your vast knowledge, and total understanding of the Vflex units..............JMHO is an understatement to say the least.

If every Newbie, and many seasoned hunters followed your direction and JMHO's their finds would improve dramatically.

I am new to this game and I'm starting to think that the tracking function is hiding targtes from my inexperience. The jury is still out for me. BTW that is in town with lots of nail, garbage, and interference.

I use tracking sometimes just to see how much the ground around me changes and it is unreal how it goes up and down in a matter of just a few feet. I try to keep it off most off the time

Randy where is this feature at and I've just aquired the 705 but haven't seen it? I think I understand the slightly positive on the ground balance manually, but "maybe not". The soil "here" can go from the darkest red clay with black sand all through it to loamy topsoil pitch black in color real quick on most hunts then to almost sand. MMMM maybe I'm contemplating too much..........that's dangerous!
