Can I still do this, I wonder?

Third hunt of the year. I wonder what happened to that other fella who used to live in my body. I did go out yesterday and then again today. My thighs are screaming at me! I went to a clad rich place just to see if I could still detect like I used to. I reckon I'm still proficient. 3 hours. 115 clad coins for $12.72. A big junk ring. I think it's junk. Some other assorted trash.

The ground is incredibly dry. I mean, come on, this is April. I should have come home covered in mud with soaking wet feet.

Not my usual photo style either. So anything happen while I was gone? :lmfao:

Chris

Chris, glad to see you are back! Was wondering how you are, and if you'd show up this Spring or not, the dirts says "summer" while the calendar says "spring"...Nice work there again!:clapping:
Mud

Nice digs.
Glad your back at it.
What happen to that faded recycled paper towel ?

I did reuse the paper plate. If that counts. If you look carefully, you can see a little piece of the hamburger I scarfed down before I emptied my pockets.

Chris

Glad to be back. I almost never read the forum if I haven't been detecting, and......................I haven't been detecting.

Chris

Heck, man. 2 hrs. is what most people can take. Glad you're back. Did you have any jalapenos on that hamburger? That gives an extra hour of energy.

Grilled onions and Provolone. Pretty tasty! Then a nap!

The time was spread out over two days actually. And the coin totals. This morning I only managed 1.25 hours before an appoitment I had to keep. I probably didn't impress anybody showing up in my treasure hunting gear. I did show my handful of dusty coins at one point. Also not terribly impressive. I got the gig, though! Now I have to get my right leg working again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris

I would not count that ring as fake...Looks like silver and maybe garnet or red turquoise...
Great coin count!
You still got it!

Chris

Chris check that ring looks like silver

It's got a junky shank and no marks. I planned on testing it when I dig out my test acids. I recently moved and they are still packed away.

Chris

I can tell it's junk but like I wrote about a second ago, I'll test it when I unpack my test acids. I suppose I'll have to find them tonight now that two people have questioned my eye! I'll post the results.

Chris

Well at least I got the last two boxes of my move unpacked. They contained all MD stuff (books, mags, supplies, finds) and I was in no hurry to unpack it because I hadn't found a good place for it all. It's now all in the linen closet because I don't own a whole lot of linen! I put the sheets and towels that were in the linen closet in my dresser where I kept my jeans. I put my jeans on hangers and hung them in the bedroom closet. Now where do I put the winter coats I had to take out of the closet to make room for the jeans? I'll check the linen closet. (That is a joke if you're wondering.)

That said. My eye is still good. Junk. Gold acid disolved it in about a second, Silver acid too. My guess is some type of brass.

Chris

Nice to see you back on the forum and hunting cwilk. I was wondering where you had been the past few months. Not much has changed on the forum. some have switched brands and don't come into the Garrett forum anymore, but other than that not much.

HH and GL!

Great finds for a single outing.
Here's a coin question:
Did you discriminate out iron or did you dig up everything without discrimination.
I was asking you this because today I tried the iron targets, and digging up a section of my coin-rich field, all I got was rusty nails and a couple of can lids.
I tried some field testing with old 50 cents, 1 lira and 2 lira from between the world wars and the 50 cents always rang as iron, while the other two also rang as iron, but only if they were perpendicular and not flat to the md. I'm trying to dig out all the coins I can find, but I'll have to get some positive targets soon, or else I'll move on to other fields.
I also matched 3 spoons with their respectable handles, but none of them are silver...
The 5 older coins I found surely help me keep up the hunt over these abandoned fields.

I usually discriminate out iron. I use an AT-Pro for the most part lately. As for old coins. I don't know why but at my old coin sites, sometimes very deep, small, old coins will jump from iron to coin VDI. At these sites I do usually run with a little iron not dicriminated out. Another tactic you can try is to clean out a lot of the modern stuff from a site and then go back in a dig it all mode. I find it difficult going to a site with loads of targets and digging it all. Just my two cents.

BTW. The hunts I did over the weekend were clad hunts. Just to get back my form. I was hoping for a nice ring too, but I always hope for that! I was not looking for old coins and, not surprisingly, I didn't find any.

I can't believe it's not butter, myself. (Joke.)

Chris

Nice to be back, buddy. Did you ever write that article?

Chris

Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way. With my senior year, college enlisting, and a move I have been struggling just to get out for the last few months. An article is definitely a life goal though cwilk. HH
