Can I get some input on the Whites 1400-DD coil for the MXT? I bought one last Dec. and never used it and recently sold it.

And today I just aquired another one. I'm now wondering again, if I really have a use for a 1400 coil. The 5.3" Eclipse coil is presently my 'most used' and favorite coil for most of the areas I've worked.
I'd kind of like to have a larger DD coil to haul around w/the others, just in case I'd need one but are there any advantages with the 1400-DD coil in comparison to say the 6x10-DD coil, or is it basically the same coil with just a larger footprint for better coverage? I wouldn't think the depth would be much different, but I don't know.
I currently own the standard Whites 9.5", the Whites 5.3", the 5" Excelerator, and the small Whites DD-Shooter. And now the 1400-DD again. I'm wondering if it would it make more sense to sell or swap the 1400-DD and get a 6x10-DD coil for the times that a larger DD coil would be needed, or is there more to the 1400 than just extra coverage? For pure coverage, I think I'd probably look in a different direction than a 1400 anyway.
Simplified, I kind of like the idea of having a larger DD coil but wonder if I'd get more use from the 6x10. I'd also like to do some nugget hunting this summer and thinking it may be a better choice than the 1400. I don't really see the need for both but that's the reason for my questions here...
Thanks for any comments and or opinions...

...that requires the DD 1400. I picked one up for searching for Civil War Huts and privies. If you tend to coinhunt more than relic hunt then you will probably see the coil in your bag more than at the end of your detector.
And now that KellyCo is coming out with an 8 inch DD coil, you may find that more to your likeing than the 1400 DD.
I like the 1400 DD coil and took it out coin shooting a local park this past Saturday. It is very sensitive, I have noticed that. I do like it and will keep it but I'll use it for the old homesteads out East in Colorado and I'll be looking for privies with it. For that purpose I believe it is a fantastic coil.

hDW,
I noticed from your post that you have both the 5" and the 5.3 coils? I have the 5" on my MXT (I love it) and have been considering the 5.3 for hunting a couple sites that are trashy yet with very low mineralization (GND 40-50). I have read some posts that lead me to believe that the concentric design may perform better than DD design in this soil. I was wondering if you could provide me with "comparison data" on these coils? Or at least some personal experiences?

Hi txblues, I'd always used the normal 9.5 concentric coil until I bought and started using the 5.3" Excel.. In the areas Ive been hunting, normal to mildly trashy, the 5.3 seems to give much better separation and w/out losing much coverage, compared to the 9.5 coil and ESPECIALLY better seperation in real trashy areas. I also think it gives a better hit on coins at deeper depths.
I only just barely got the 5" Excel. coil and can't give you any meaningful comparison. However, I bought it to mainly supplement the small Whites DD Shooter coil rather than to be my normal search coil. I think I'll most likely be using it in real trashy and or mineralized areas in comparison against the small DD Shooter.
I hope to get down to an old homestead and Stagestop area in Nv. again this spring... That's where I hope to give it a good workout.
For normal hunting and in mildly trashy ground as you mention, I think that the 5.3 could do you a better job compared to the 5" Excel., if for no other reason, depth and coverage. The 5.3 will still give you fairly good sep. in trashy ground and if it gets too bad, you can always switch back to the 5".
You've maybe read them but if not,... Monte has posted some excellent comparisons between these coils.

One thing I noticed about the Whites 14 DD is in mineralized ground at gain 3 maxed out it does not give me the overload signal like the 6x10 coil at gain 3 does was very surprised at this. The 14 DD Has a big edge in mineralized hot rock infested ground.
