Can I get a Excalibur that works..PLEASE !!

I bought the new ex cal. ll and after hunting with it had a lot of issues with it giving false signals. I then discovered that if I hit the coil with my hand it would go off, so I knew something was wrong. I sent it back to minelab and ten days later I got it back. They said they replaced the coil, pc board , and some other things. Took it to the beach and again I had problems with the false signals and acting crazy, not as bad but still not right. I contacted JW at Kellyco where I bought it and he agreed to take it back and was sending me a brand new one again.

The new one came yesterday. I set it up on my Anderson straight shaft and charged the battery for 16 hours and headed to Naples beach with my buddy Erick. I didn't even have the coil in the water 5 seconds and knew that this machine was messed up also. Very erratic and falsing like the other. Man this is driving me crazy, anyone else having trouble with them? I am very curious.

I have been detecting for over thirty five years and yes I know what I am doing and I know when a machine is bad. Erick has been for just as long if not longer and he tried it and agreed. I tried all of the setting that GH and others said too and even tried all kinds of others to no avail. Erick has the 800 and 1000 ex cal. in the older model. He let me use his 1000 and I hunted all day and it purred like a kitten.

I really want to stick with the DD coil because I hunt large areas of the beach always in the water and I feel this machine would give me the most coverage. At this point I am so close to saying keep the ex cal. and send me the beachunter 300, but I really want the ex cal.

So again today I shipped it back. JW was off so I will call him Monday and see what he wants to do next.... I know I am just venting....

I just bought a used Excal 1000, when I took it out for the 1st time it did the same thing your was doing. I sent it to Minelab and had Robert check it out and install the Gray Ghost Head phones... when I got it back I felt like it was doing the same thing... then I went and hunted with Gulf Hunter... he set it up like his and I had not more problems...
Just listen to GH and you may have to play with the threshold to make sure you get the right tones.
He definitely knows what he is talking about..

Situation which has described by Floridabill it is identical and at me. I am engaged in scuba diving and my friend gave me the Excalibur 1000 and I liked hunting. Two months ago I have bought Excalibur800 and problems with it have begun. The detector I cannot adjust on a ground. I followed instructions which gave Gulf Hunter at this forum, but it has not helped. Even at minimal sensitivity (Disc 1) the detector gave out threshold signals which difficultly to understand. After repair of the detector at a factory the situation has not changed. I cannot tell that I did not so because I always could compare as my detector and the detector of the friend works. With the detector of the friend I enjoyed hunting and dived on depth up to 22 meters. Sensitivity put in a position of 12 hours, Disc 1 and a threshold signal of the detector worked stably. The dealer in Lithuania has sent my detector on repeated repair. But I already am afraid that nothing will change as yesterday I had an opportunity to dive with Excalibur II with the coil 10

Maybe I just got lucky, or maybe I have been listening to GH too much :please:. I have only had mine a week now, I set it up like GH and Sandman suggested, and have had NO problems. Granted, I can mis adjust it and make it sound like 47 monkeys playing in a string quartet, but I have found it is MUCH more sensitive than any other detector I own, and with this comes the requirement of setting it as precisely as possible. After reading through Clive's book on the Excal, and looking at the tone curves I took it out to a playground Thursday, and found .60 in clad, and ONE pull tab!! I have never had that good find to junk ratio with any of my metered machines. Listen to GH... he is WISE!!

Please let us know if you get the problem resolved. I've been thinking about an Excalibur II but now I'm going to hold off for a while to see if others are having the same problem. Good luck.
