I copied this from a website I found (bigvalleymetaldetectors.com) and wondered if you folks would agree with the statement:

~Comments: Very similar circuit to the 2200D but has some big advantages. It is water proof to 200 feet or more and is ergonomically much lighter and easily pole or hip mounted. The circuit sounds very close to Minelab's 2200 and it appears that Charles Garrett and the engineering staff likewise took a page or two out of Eric Foster's technology. Several months ago, Mark the Locksmith, a Trans Bay customer, traded in his Detector Pro Head Hunter PI (Eric Foster Circuit) with which he found a man's gold ring holding two 1/4Ct diamonds at over 14" deep. Mark had been doing his homework and asked to borrow an Infinium demo. He decided he liked the high-low conductive tone ID and ordered one. After he received the new Infinium he remarked that this new Infinium seemed to be more stable and, after checking with my national rep, Carl Mathias, it turned out that Garrett has quietly continued to make improvements in the development of the Infinium with very little fanfare. The Infinium has a great selection of factory mono and double D or wide scan loops at its disposal. Three years ago, the other number 1 in the power of 2 took the Infinium to Lake Tahoe and it cut through the heavy volcanic black sand with ease. There were even coins too deep to dig, at over 20". The Infinium is definitely a best buy. See the Garrett Infinium here~

I own an Infinium and wonder if it is similar to the ML 2200D. If so this would be something to consider because I have been wanting to sell my Infinium then purchase a used 2200v2. Would I gain much??

You may gain better sensitivity and depth to very small gold below 0.2g. you will be able to use a slightly faster sweep speed. You will lose the iron ID at depth of target as well as the ability to work All ground and weather conditions and of course the 2200 is not waterproof. It is of course an excellent gold machine in its own right and has an excellent reputation.

But Au79 & Ghost Master ~ they designed the Finny in Your Land when the 3500 was the one to match or Beat. Myself the technology with the API would not equalled in general except possibly 3500 or newer , according to the fairly extensive research I've done before going with Finny . Myself I'm not concerned with Sub-gram gold (that's just me) and being afield with 4500's - we're just as deep with Finny on decent gold (to my experience) . I would feel it's a step backward to the 2200 , again that's just for My $ i'm speaking. oh - Ghost Master , that dog chewed 8" does not work Period after splicing - i got took - U lucked out . . . . . . . . haha

Hey thanks for the input - good info and Ken~Digs if your saying that from South Cal. you have probably put it to the test in that soil. my Infinium doesn't run a smooth threshold. getting lots of false and it's getting worse. Swinging the 10x14 DD and 8 in. mono. Each coil makes a different false sound but the 8 is worse. I heard the 220v2 ran real smooth so thats what I'm looking for and in that price range. BUT! I contacted Garrett and I'm going to send it in. They say it will come back purring smoothly. If not it will be for sale. I hope the repair works because aside from gold I love this Infinium for coin and relic and MAN! does it like silver and the reverse disc lets me know it's silver from the tone. As far as the infinium for gold - if I'm out there swinging I want to hear all the gold as small as possible and can't with the false tones. Oh right - lead and gold travel together. If you are ever in a river where there is gold and it is fine gold look for the lead in the cracks and you'll find the fine gold.

If you dig it out pack it in

Hey AU , I've had it find hairline Flake vein in quartz that my VLF couldnt detect - it finds small enough gold for me. Myself i would replace the 8" or have them Fix unit since they offered. You'll never know the reliable detecting & confidence we're talking about unless U try. Like I said above, the 2200 is a step back in ground balance & other aspects that the Infinium was made to better. Check out this quote about a normal running Infinium au . . .

"I have been putting the Infinium and GP3500 to the test for 6 months now. In the WA gold fields. Finding a small signal with the GP then changing to the Infinium to see the difference and via versa. So far everything the SD hears so does the Infinium. I run the GP on noisy ground adjusted the sensitivity on both detectors to smooth the thresh hold. And the Infinium gets the targets where the GP fails.
I dig every weak signal and all ways have. I been checking the Discrimination on both. The GP is useless. But the Infinium works to the weakest signal. Very impressive. I been a minelab lover from the day minelab started. I have all their detectors"

Oh ~ forgot. Yes it runs great in Cal - mojave & all the goldfields i searched in Arizona as well , totally ignoring even 3 lb. hematites. If they get it Purring - I cant tell U how assured You'll be when You get prospecting with it. Again it wouldn't matter what machines I ever add to the quiver , it will Always include Infinium. Leaving in the morning (wed.) to some classic so-Ore. gold fields ~ I'll let You know how we do . Finny is the main Nugget machine on this trip , as always currently. Good luck & talk soon , Ken

Thanks for the info Ken - wow! to compare with the ML machines like that I hope it comes back running smooth. I am thinking more and more about keeping it. Also, can't wait till it gets back now!

Hi Ken,
No I would not choose the 2200 over the Infinium, The Infinium is simply far more versatile and capable and everything it does it is achieved on a set of AA Batteries.
Too bad about the 8 inch mono although I am not sure why it didn't work if you connected the wireing up correctly and re joined the cable shield.

Fishers Ghost - Yes, I had the connections right and being a keyed connection I am careful to get things oriented before applying pressure to seat the plug. The last time I hunted with the 8 mono I had to hold the control box away from my body with my left hand and support the connection with my fingers to minimize the falsing. It's on it's way to Texas now and Garrett said they would put some goodies in the return package to make up for my postage. Now that I have my ATG at least I won't go into withdrawal! :0)

Hi Ghost Master & Au . Au i think FG may have been talking about my bogus 8" used i bought. The Dog chewed story was a worked up hoax, i'm sure. Re-joined all correctly & it wouldn't even give Battery indication beeps - I suspect it was a Salted out coil . I really needed it on the Hunt I just got back from. Couldnt pinpoint good in the Bedrock i believe held a couple Nuggets way down , i will return there with an 8" Certainly. The 14" found a Quartz vein again with what i believe to be powder gold audibly that i didn't feel like toting with me & breaking up , I'm just not in it for that. Going to go back & also work a Wire gold claim offered by a new Friend we Met down there , maybe this summer.

yep - I think your right - it was your 8. :0) You need a little Burro if your going to be finding samples that large Ken~Digs! Still waiting for my Infinium to return. Man - that sample looks like gold!!
