Just a guess,it could be an old surveyors marker for a plumb bob.Push it in the ground so the flat part is up.Look for a center mark on the flat side.
 
It's a ancient "NINGA DEATH STAR"
The later ones went to 5, 6, 8, & 12 points

Hey deadheadwillie,
If it were not for the fact you said it was solid copper, it looks like a Mercedes Benz emblem without the circle. Maybe part of a hood ornament off from a very old Benz? Was it plated?
 
you know that is what i thought at first too.but no it is not plated it is soilid copper,and its way too heavy for a hood emblem i would think.
